Latest ‘Suicide Squad’ Reactions Emerge, And They’re Not As Positive

There’s an awful lot of pressure on Suicide Squad. Following the tepid response to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and the blockbuster’s inability to gross over $1 billion at the box office, David Ayer’s villainous hybrid is now tasked with establishing the DC Extended Universe.

The reaction to Suicide Squad’s trailers has been hugely positive. Toward the end of last month, it was announced that it’s the most talked about summer movie of 2016 on Twitter, via USA Today.

A week before, the first reactions to Suicide Squad emerged after it was allegedly test-screened in Union City, California. The responses were hugely positive, with those insisting that they’d seen it saying that the film was hugely enjoyable.

However, additional responses to Suicide Squad have now emerged, with two Reddit users taking to the website to share their thoughts. It’s believed that the people lucky enough to see David Ayer’s film did so on Thursday night in Sacramento, California.

Soyodu, a user on Reddit, explained that those who were invited to see the advanced screening didn’t actually know that they were going to see Suicide Squad. In fact, Soyodu initially believed that it was either going to be Star Trek Beyond, Indepenence Day: Resurgence, or Jason Bourne.

But, when it was first announced that the crowd had indeed gathered together to watch Suicide Squad, everyone in attendance stood and applauded. But, after the film, the response was less enthusiastic.

Soyodu wrote, “I will tell you there was NO standing ovation, but a decent amount of people clapped in the end… At the end, probably only half clapped… which doesn’t mean the other half didn’t like it, but if this was like a Thursday night showing with fanboys, I have no doubt it would have been a much bigger applause.”

In the end, Soyodu decided to give it a 7.5 out of 10. While the Reddit user insisted that there were parts of the film that he really enjoyed, most noticeably the “action” and, for the most part, the “pacing,” he insisted that there were two characters that he really didn’t respond well to. He also criticized an emotional scene that he didn’t care for at all.

Meanwhile, another Reddit user by the name of Malachim insisted that it’s better than X-Men: Apocalypse, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and they even went as far as to rank it above Deadpool. However, they refused to put it above Captain America: Civil War, which the user insisted was better.

However, Malachim made sure to highlight that Suicide Squad was, overall, “an excellent movie,” insisting that Margot Robbie steals the show as Harley Quinn. Malachim also reveals that Ben Affleck’s Batman once again excels. Affleck’s version of the Caped Crusader is widely regarded as one of the best aspects of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Back in May, the first reactions to Suicide Squad were almost universally positive. Those who saw it took to Twitter shared their thoughts.

But, fans shouldn’t get too excited, because Batman V Superman was also met with similarly positive reviews after its initial press screenings. And, it ultimately was a false dawn.
