Park Bo Young: Korean Actress Of ‘Oh My Ghostess’ Strong Contender For New Web Drama By JTBC

Last year, one of the more-popular K-dramas by tvN was Oh My Ghostess. Starring Park Bo Young, Jo Jung Suk, and Kim Seul Gie, the series was about a woman named Na Bong Sun (Bo Young), a girl with an extremely timid personality and low self-esteem. She ends up working as an assistant chef at the Sun Restaurant owned by Kang Sun Woo (Jung Suk), an arrogant celebrity chef. Eventually, Bong Sun falls in love with Sun Woo but does not know how to pursue her feelings.

Eventually, Na Bong Sun ends up striking a deal with a lustful, virgin ghost named Shin Soon Ae (Kim Seul Gi) in which Soon Ae would possess Bong Sun’s body and help her attain a relationship with Kang Sun Woo. Also, if Soon Ae is able to sleep with Sun Woo, she will be able to ascend to Heaven.

Oh My Ghostess, as mentioned earlier, proved to be both popular and profitable for tvN. It concluded with up to eight percent viewership ratings for both TNS Media Korea and AGB Nielsen, favorable numbers for a show airing on a cable pay channel. Besides Oh My Ghostess simply being a great K-drama, it is believed that Park Bo Young being cast has a lot to do with its success too. For starters, Bo Young is a true veteran in the business with a decade of experience. She has worked with other great Korean actors and actresses most notably Song Joong Ki, the main male lead of Descendants of the Sun. Also, Oh My Ghostess is the first K-drama Park Bo Young has acted in in over seven years, as reported by Soompi.

Now there is news that Park Bo Young’s next acting project will not just be another upcoming K-drama, but one that is exclusive to the web. Reportedly, Bo Young is a strong contender for said drama which will be produced through JTBC.

The news of Park Bo Young’s strong contendership was stated by both JTBC, the production company responsible for popular K-dramas Last, Madame Antoine, Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi, and Mirror of the Witch, and Fides Spatium, the agency Bo Young is signed to. According to AllKpop, a representative of Bo Young provided a statement on June 3 pertaining to her role in the upcoming K-drama.

“Park Bo Young is in the final stage of mediation regarding her appearance in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.”

Not much is known about the upcoming K-drama at this moment because it will be airing in January of 2017. It will be written by Baek Mi Kyung of My Love Eun Dong and directed by producer Lee Hyung Min of Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi. Take note that both K-dramas mentioned belong to JTBC.

As for what Park Bo Young is doing recently, she will be attending KCON 2016 in New York as a special guest. Apparently, her only work for 2016 so far is being a mentor on variety show We Kid. Prior to that in 2015, she starred in three K-movies — The Silenced, Collective Invention, and You Call It Passion — and her only K-drama, Oh My Ghostess. For those wanting to watch Oh My Ghostess, the entire series is available to view for free, with ads, on both DramaFever and Viki.
