‘UnREAL’ Renewed For Season 3: Lifetime Orders More Shows Before Season 2 Premiere

Lifetime has renewed UnREAL for Season 3 days before Season 2 premieres.

Last summer’s break out hit UnREAL has already been given a new 10-episode order by Lifetime and Season 2 hasn’t even begun airing yet. The network released the fantastic, yet slightly shocking, news on Thursday to let fans know the show will definitely be on air in the summer of 2017.

Liz Gataley, who is the executive vice president and head of programming for Lifetime, had this to say about the network’s choice to move forwarding with Season 3 of UnREAL at this time.

“UnREAL is that rare series that redefines a network. It not only reflects culture, but pushes culture forward by creating television’s first female antihero. The overwhelming fan and critical reaction set the bar incredibly high, but the writers and executive producing team, coupled with the outstanding performances by Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer, have taken the second season to even greater creative heights. We are thrilled about the new ground we will break with season three while continuing our work with the incredible A+E Studios as we together build Lifetime’s Fempire.”

That is quite a statement from the powers that be at the network, but it is valid. Fans of the hit show know UnREAL is the latest summer TV addiction. Season 1 was a bona fide hit with its look into the behind-the-scenes world of reality television. It is a gritty world that the show taps into with flying colors and will make you wonder what really happens on shows like The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

Constance Zimmer and Shiri Appleby lead this outstanding cast as the behind-the-scenes master manipulators Quinn and her right hand gal Rachel. The dynamic between these two actresses is off the charts and no doubt has added to the show’s huge success. Their do-whatever-it-takes-to-create-drama-and-ratings characters are the driving force behind the show and they are killing it.

There is a long list of wonderful words that can be said about Shiri and Constance and their characters; but, in this case, seeing really is believing. If you have yet to watch the show, be sure to check out Season 1 immediately.

Although Lifetime renewed UnREAL for Season 3, storyline details are being kept under wraps. It makes sense, since Season 2 premieres next week. However, Season 2 details have been shared, including that the fake reality show Everlasting will feature a black bachelor. This will likely add a whole other layer to the drama, backstabbing, and manipulating that will likely occur. It is pretty safe to say that Quinn and Rachel will be anything but politically correct when it comes to their new leading man, or anything else for that matter.

Despite having a bachelor of color, not a lot is expected to change with the show itself, except for perhaps a lot more drama and not just on Everlasting. Josh Kelly is back as Rachel’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Jeremy, and Craig Bierko is back as Chet Quinn’s former married ex-beau. Those two relationships alone are bound to bring some good fighting and maybe even some loving, too.

Plus, let us not forget all the other minions that Quinn employs to create ratings gold, those guys have lots of potential. Hopefully, there will be a lot of the Everlasting producers pushing the envelope even further this season. The second season of UnREAL begins Monday at 10 p.m. EST.

Fans of the hit Lifetime show UnREAL got a little surprise when the network renewed the show for Season 3. What do you think about Lifetime ordering more episodes before the summer season begins? Are you ready for Season 2? Be sure to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
