‘Destiny: Rise Of Iron’ Expansion Reveal Coming Next Week

The next Destiny DLC reveal plans have set for PlayStation and Xbox fans. Bungie announced Thursday a livestream reveal is coming next week for the leaked Rise of Iron expansion, just ahead of E3.

Bungie will host a livestream Thursday, June 2, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT on its Twitch channel. The official title of the event is “Destiny Reveal Stream” with only the most teasing of descriptions.

“You’re invited to learn all about the next threat that you’ll confront as Guardians.

“Save the date. Follow our channel. This will be your first glimpse at what awaits you later on this year, followed by a deeper dive with the development team.

The image at the top of the article was shared showing three Guardians clearly wearing Iron Banner armor. As previously covered, an image of a promotional poster for Destiny: Rise of Iron leaked via the internet and Bungie is likely alluding to the same with the image.

The poster features Lord Saladin striking a pose while wearing a cape, wielding a flaming two-headed axe, and being surrounded by a pack of three wolves. Swords were added to Destiny as an equipable weapon with the release of The Taken King, so it wouldn’t be terribly surprising to find a new melee weapon added to the game. Meanwhile, wolves and the number three have been a constant with both Destiny and the Iron Banner events from the beginning.

Rise of Iron will reportedly feature a new Fallen-themed Raid and be larger than the Year One expansions House of Wolves and The Dark Below. The raid is said to be the one that was cut from the House of Wolves DLC because Bungie allegedly could not finish it in time and did not want a repeat of the mishaps with Crota’s End.

Speculation on where the content for Rise of Iron will take players is currently running rampant on various forums. However, the imagery of Lord Saladin standing before a massive breach in a wall appears to be a call back to the Battle of Twilight Gap.

In Destiny lore, the Battle of Twilight Gap took place on the outskirts of the City when the Kell of the Fallen House of King gathered different houses together to attack and attempt to capture the Traveler. Lord Saladin led a force of Guardians to defend the fort located there, but was overrun. Lord Shaxx eventually mounted a counterattack and routed the Fallen from the City.

There’s also the possibility Rise of Iron will deal with the Iron Lords themselves. Skorri, Radeghast, Timur, Felwinter, Jolder, Gheleon, Silimar, Efrideet, and Perun were the original nine Lords and have weapons or artifacts named after them in Destiny.

The Destiny: Rise of Iron expansion is confirmed for later this year, based on Bungie comments, and will presumably be released sometime this fall. The developer seems to enjoy releases during the month of September, but we will have to wait for the livestream reveal next week to confirm the date.

Meanwhile, Destiny 2 is also in development and targeting an unknown release window in 2017. The Mass Effect: Andromeda lead writer joined Bungie, as previously reported, but there were some additional shakeups behind the scenes per Kotaku.

The sequel was recently rebooted, according to the site, and The Taken King creative director is now in charge of the project. Destiny itself was rebooted leading up to its planned 2013 release, which led to the game being delayed to 2014. This led to a shakeup at the developer and the departure of Joseph Staten and eventually Mary O’Donnell. It also led to the game’s shallow and seemingly disjointed plot to become a major detractor for some.
