Karrueche Tran Responds To Fan Criticism Over Claims That Chris Brown ‘Sabotaged’ Her Career

Karrueche Tran is no stranger to addressing fan criticism on social media, so when one fan took to Twitter to diss Karrueche over the model’s claims that her former boyfriend, Chris Brown, “sabotaged” her career as a result of their on-again, off-again relationship, Tran wasted no time in responding to the fan’s accusations.

The exchange occurred on Wednesday after one fan took to Twitter to blast Karrueche for reportedly claiming that Chris Brown had “sabotaged her career,” seemingly referencing Karrueche’s 2015 interview with BBC Newsbeat, in which she noted that she has had to “clear up certain things” about her association with Brown in order to focus on her career.

“Negative stuff was being said and being brought up. A lot of people were like ‘she’s only famous because of Chris Brown,’ ” Karrueche explained to the site back in October. “I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain myself because this is my life and I can do whatever I want. But in the same breath, it’s like, now that I am trying to focus on my career and get my stuff together, I have to clear up certain things.”

In addition, Karrueche further explains that she’s had to learn how to “block out” negative comments on social media, revealing, “I want to respond but I’ve learned it’s best to just let it go and not even put any energy towards that. I used to date [Chris Brown], and now as I am growing into myself and maturing and getting my career together, I am starting to have my own name without having to be associated.”

Karrueche Tran further explains that while she and Chris Brown are “not friends or anything like that at this point,” she has had difficulty in combatting her association with the “Grass Ain’t Greener” singer when it comes to her career.

“A lot of people think I am a weak individual because of past situations and when it comes to business sometimes people don’t want to be involved with somebody like that. Which is understandable, but it sucks, because I’m not a weak person,” Tran explained.

In response to Karrueche’s comments in the interview, one fan took to Twitter to diss the A Weekend with the Family actress by questioning Karrueche’s celebrity status prior to the beginning of her relationship with Chris Brown.

“This girl @karrueche really said @chrisbrown sabotaged her career. Like she was poppin before him or something lol,” the fan explained on the social media site, as captured in a screengrab by the Shade Room.

“@OfficialAerie_ f*** you talking bout?” Karrueche replied to the fan’s post, ultimately igniting a debate between Karrueche and Chris Brown fans in response to the model’s claims in the interview.

Just one month after her interview with BBC concerning her decision to split from Chris Brown after learning that the “Back To Sleep” singer had fathered a child with model Nia Guzman, Tran opened up to Kontrol Magazine about how her former relationship with Chris continues to have an impact on her dating life as well.

“I think people are intimidated by the drama [from my past relationship] and not wanting to deal with it because it’s an ongoing story,” Karrueche revealed to the site.

“I haven’t really explored dating yet and I’m not sure if I’m mentally there just because of all of the stuff that I’ve been through. It’s a lot to open up to somebody.”

While Karrueche has been adamant about distancing herself from Chris Brown following their breakup, even recently blasting a fan on Twitter who referred to her as “Chris Brown’s ex girl,” it appears that the model is still having to defend herself against fan criticism on social media.
