HGTV ‘Property Brother’ Jonathan Scott Escapes Charges After Bar Fight In Fargo

Jonathan Scott, one half of HGTV’s dynamic duo “The Property Brothers” has escaped charges stemming from an April bar fight in Fargo, North Dakota.

US Weekly reports that Jonathan Scott avoided charges due to a lack of evidence.

“Upon review of the police report and associated evidence, I found there was not sufficient evidence to establish a violation of either simple assault or disorderly conduct … beyond a reasonable doubt,” Fargo city attorney Erik Johnson said in a statement to the Minneapolis Star Tribune

As TMZ reported at the time, Jonathan Scott got into an altercation at a Fargo bar called Dempsey’s Public House. Scott reportedly tried to break up a fight but ended up in a bouncer’s chokehold. According to TMZ, there was no clear indication as to who started the fight, but that Scott called 911 at around 1:57 AM and told them he was assaulted by a bouncer. The authorities said that Dempsey’s staff denied any involvement in the incident but there are photos of Jonathan Scott in a choke hold from that night. No one was arrested as a result of the bar fight at Dempsey’s.

Hollywood Life reports that security footage from that night shows that the incident happened as the bar was getting ready to close for the night. In the video you can see Jonathan standing near a booth before he walks over to another bar patron in a confrontational manner.

Pushing and shoving ensues between the HGTV presenter and another unidentified man. Soon the bouncer intervenes and it seems like he’s ordering Jonathan out of the bar. Jonathan initially complies but then comes back to the bar and tries to confront the guy again. That’s when the Dempsey’s bouncer gets more forceful with Jonathan, places him in a chokehold and escorts him out of the establishment. Hollywood Life reports that the police later came to the bar in response to Jonathan’s 911 call and took a statement from the home renovation star.

US Weekly reports that an insider source close to Jonathan Scott insisted that he did not start the fight at Dempsey’s, but was trying to break up a fight. However, a report on Fox News said that Jonathan was protesting the fact that their drinks were taken away from the table before they were finished. The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, a local Fargo newspaper, ran a similar story and stated that patrons at the bar were enraged and got very agitated when their drinks were removed around closing time.

Scott is one of HGTV’s main stars alongside his twin brother, Drew Scott. Jonathan Scott is a contractor and his twin brother Drew is a real estate agent on HGTV’s Property Brothers. Drew and Jonathan Scott also host Buying And Selling and Brother vs Brother on HGTV. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Jonathan and Drew were visiting Fargo at the Eco Chic Design Conference on April 23. The incident at Dempsey’s Public House happened on April 24.
