WWE News: Goldberg Claims To Have At Least 50 Matches Left In Him, But Does That Mean A WWE Return?

The world began to explode on Monday night when Bill Goldberg showed up on the promo for the new WWE2K17 video game. Like every year, 2K Sports brings in a legend from the past to be the major name associated with the game. Names like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Sting, and Ultimate Warrior were part of the 2K games in this way.

Because everyone associated did something with WWE due to the 2K Sports affiliation, it has made many wonder when Goldberg will show up on television and compete in matches with our favorites of today. To help add fuel to the fire, Goldberg sat down with WWE.com and answered a variety of questions, but the biggest things to take from the interview were his comments on possibly wrestling with WWE again.

When asked if he had at least one more match left in him, Goldberg claimed the following.

“I’ve got 50 more in me. It just depends on the ability to keep it up to my standards. I love everybody to death and I greatly appreciate their opinions, but none of it matters except for mine, because I hold myself to such high standards. The reality is, you’ve got movies, TV appearances, a kid, you’re 49 years old … things aren’t like they used to be. It’s a completely different day. I’m 20 to 30 pounds less than what I was because I just don’t need to be that dude with traps from his ears to his shoulders. Would I like to be that guy again? Absolutely. He’s still in there.”

Goldberg has tried to play things safe when it comes to a return. While he has been open to the term “never say never,” the issue is that he would be 50-years-old by the time WrestleMania 33 comes around, and both parties would have to want to work together again. He has barely performed since leaving WWE back in 2004. He had one final match where he won over Brock Lesnar. Every fan knew both men were leaving the WWE after this match and it really upset the people.

The match sucked, as well. While both men blame the crowd a lot, if they would have given an amazing final performance, no one would have hated the match. A crowd can be won over despite prior knowledge. However, neither man was able to deliver a good performance here.

For most, Goldberg is known as one of the most stiff workers of all time. He was the man who retired Bret Hart, in fact. He was also known for not being a great performer in the ring. To some, it was like he was popular just for being popular. He would not fit in well with this new era of fans who want to see wrestling first, and big bodies much later on.

While Goldberg was popular and most likely able to bring fans in due to his work during the Monday Night Wars, he is by no means worthy of spending a lot of money on. WWE tried to get people like Lesnar back because they knew he could do a lot for the company. Meanwhile, they wanted to bring Warrior back to end the issues between both sides. Sting also never worked for WWE, and the appeal for him to be back was simply to work one WrestleMania was very high. He had also been working with TNA, and we knew he was capable of doing a great deal.

When it comes to Bill Goldberg, WWE could bring him in for a match or two. We could certainly expect a WWE Hall of Fame opportunity come his way, as he does deserve to be part of it. Despite this, WWE has no real need for the former World Champion. He may still have an ability to work, but there has to be a real use for him. WWE and Goldberg have spoken about coming back before and things never really worked out. On top of this, both sides have not pulled punches about each other since Goldberg left. Bill still isn’t a fan of Vince McMahon. It will be interesting to see what occurs.
