‘New Girl’ Season 6 Spoilers: Megan Fox’s Reagan Returns, Jess Wants Nick Back
When Megan Fox temporarily took Zooey Deschanel’s place in the last season of New Girl, fans of the Fox sitcom had mixed reactions. While some were curious to see how Fox’s character, Reagan, would fit into the group’s dynamics, others were less-than-thrilled with the casting. Now that we’ve got a taste of the Transformers star’s comedic timing, will see more of her in Season 6?
If it were up to New Girl creator Liz Meriwether, she would love for Megan Fox to return for Season 6. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she explained that Nick (Jake Johnson) and Reagan’s story will be crucial to eventually move Nick and Jess’s (Zooey Deschanel) relationship forward. While some fans wanted nothing more than to have Nick and Jess back together again, Meriwether insisted that they still needed a bit of time apart.
“We love Reagan, and she’s really funny with Nick. Nick dating Reagan shows how much he has grown too; he has the confidence to be with her. In order to get Nick and Jess back together, both of the characters [would need] to grow a lot and change or realize what went wrong in the last relationship.”
Nick and Jess shippers, however, should not feel upset about Reagan’s storyline. The New Girl showrunner explained that it will only be a matter of time until things fall into place.
She pointed out that the Season 5 finale was a clear indication that there will always be hope for Nick and Jess. Although, this time around it could be Jess who will be pining for his attention.
“The door is definitely not shut, and that’s what the finale is about… Next year, the door is definitely open, and Jess is probably standing in the doorway,” Meriwether said.
Bustle predicted that we will see more of Megan Fox in New Girl Season 6, as her character is obviously the main reason why Nick and Jess have not reunited just yet. Fox may not be present in each episode but surely the writers will find a way to make each appearance even more special. The publication even pointed out that the writers are “huge fans of the slow build,” so it may take a while before we get to see the much-awaited reunion.
The outlet also pointed out that it would be a waste to write off Reagan as just another obstacle in Nick and Jess’s love story. They hope that we will eventually see Megan Fox interact more with the other New Girl cast like Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) in Season 6.
Another cast member who may be returning next season is Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.). While he has been busy filming for another show, Meriwether said that they would love to have him in another episode or two when possible. Although Wayans, Jr. left the show twice to pursue other opportunities, the New Girl EP said that it is always a pleasure to have him on set.
Wayans, Jr. first left New Girl for Happy Endings and was replaced by Lamorne Morris. When the show was cancelled after two seasons, he returned to the Fox series only to leave again in 2015. In his official statement, Wayans, Jr., thanked the fans and his co-stars for “one of the best experiences of his career.”
