Karen Perez Update: Missing Teen’s Final Words Recorded During Rape, Murder By Teenage Boyfriend

The body of 15-year-old Texas high schooler Karen Perez was found only a few days after she went missing, stuffed inside of a cabinet under a sink in an abandoned apartment. Now it has been revealed that the girl’s last words were captured on the cell phone of her teenage boyfriend as his rape and murder of her were recorded.

When the body of the South Houston High School freshman was discovered, the body under the sink was partially nude, and now the horrifying video that police have discovered on the cell phone of her accused murderer has shed some light on why she was in such a condition. The boyfriend and alleged killer of Karen Perez is also a 15-year-old, and the name of the minor has not been released to the public as of this writing.

The body was discovered on Monday, and the boyfriend was arrested and charges brought against him on Tuesday as the police moved swiftly with their investigation. In fact, the teen was brought to juvenile court and faced a judge for the first time on Wednesday. He continues to reside behind bars.

Reports indicate that when Karen Perez was seen leaving her school on the last day she was seen alive, she was on her way to her boyfriend’s house. According to the Daily Mail, that was on May 27. Police had recovered and distributed surveillance video of the teenager from a restaurant where she made a stop that day, and she was with her boyfriend and another unidentified teenage male at the time. The restaurant was only a couple of blocks from where authorities later found her body and believe her murder took place.

Karen Perez’s killer was first reported by his father as a suspect after the boy made a chilling statement to him just hours after authorities and the girl’s family requested help in locating her. At the time, they were all under the impression that she was simply missing. However, court documents revealed that as the father drove with his son in search of the teenager’s girlfriend, the boy told his father to take him home, as she was not alive. After this, the father contacted the South Houston Police Department.

Prosecutors indicated that the police found several text messages on the boyfriend’s phones where he texted Karen and demanded that she skip school on Friday and meet with him or else, and her murder suggests the boy had premeditated motives. After they were seen at the restaurant, no one ever saw Karen Perez alive again.

ABC 13 revealed that the cell phone video that police recovered of the last moments that Karen Perez was alive only shows a black screen, but the audio was clear and the pair can be heard in the background before the murder. The prosecutors stated that Karen’s boyfriend can be heard trying to get her to have sex with him, but she told him that she did not want to. The boy can be heard calling her by name, and once she refused him, he decided to rape her and began choking the teenage girl. The investigators said that the audio clearly transmits Karen’s pleas and cries and her words to her boyfriend turned murderer were truly heartbreaking.

“I don’t want to die.”

The abandoned complex where Karen’s body was found is a known teen hang out spot, and while it had been searched when she was initially reported missing, the property consists of a total of 200 apartments, and Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller says only 25 units were searched back then and a better job should have been done. Perez’s family members are calling for the complex to be torn down.

There has been an outpouring of condolences and support for family members and friends of the murdered teenager.

The boyfriend, who has officially been charged with murder, is expected to return to juvenile court on Thursday morning.
