‘Neverwinter’ MMORPG Coming To The PlayStation 4 This Summer

With nine expansions, eight playable classes, and millions of players, Neverwinter is finally coming to the PlayStation 4. Publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced the game’s debut on the console today. The popular free-to-play MMORPG is coming to the PlayStation 4 this summer with special consideration made to the DualShock 4 touchpad.

As cited in the official announcement, Neverwinter on the PlayStation 4 will launch with the game’s nine existing expansions. In Neverwinter, players will find themselves collecting companions, completing quests, and mastering the game’s action combat. Additionally, players will be tasked with leveling up, defeating major enemies from Dungeons & Dragons lore, and even joining iconic characters in a few adventures.

“Fight against the likes of Tiamat, Demogorgon, Orcus, Valindra and many more sinister enemies from D&D lore. Adventurers will also travel through iconic locations such as Icewind Dale and the Underdark while teaming up with characters straight from the novels of acclaimed author R.A. Salvatore, including Drizzt Do’Urden.”

Neverwinter is currently available as a free-to-play title on PC and Xbox One. Unlike its Xbox Live Gold requirement on Xbox One, Neverwinter on PlayStation 4 will not require PlayStation Plus. All players can download and play the MMORPG without a fee at any time, according to the PlayStation Blog.

“We are also happy to announce that Neverwinter on PlayStation 4 will be free-to-play for all PlayStation 4 owners as you will not require PlayStation Plus to dive into this full-fledged MMORPG experience.”

As a free-to-play title, Neverwinter includes an in-game store where players can spend purchased Zen currency on things like mounts, outfits, companions, and more. Neverwinter also features a system to take currency earned within the game and convert it into Zen. By transforming Astral Diamonds into Zen, players can make purchases from the Zen Market without spending real money. However, Astral Diamonds only come from certain activities and players must refine any Rough Astral Diamonds before they can be used to trade for Zen. Players can only refine so many Rough Astral Diamonds each day.

Although the title will launch with nine of its expansions when Neverwinter comes to the PlayStation 4, more expansions are on the way. Expansion releases on console often launch after their appearance on PC. In August, the PC version of Neverwinter will welcome expansion number 10 with the release of the “Storm King’s Thunder.” As stated on the official site, players can expect a new campaign, a new dungeon tier, and much more.

“Adventurers will travel north to Bryn Shander – capital of Icewind Dale – to investigate the sudden presence of frost giants in the region. No visit to Icewind Dale would be complete without the help of Catti-brie and Wulfgar – characters from R.A. Salvatore’s novels – who will aid adventurers in their quest to stop the invading giants.”

“Storm King’s Thunder” is expected to arrive on Xbox One after its release on PC. PlayStation 4 owners will likely have to wait for its release as well, although no firm date is scheduled for its release on either console. Clearly, developer Cryptic Studios is committed to continuing the Neverwinter story with a constant stream of free expansions on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Both PC and Xbox One versions of Neverwinter will be updated with “The Maze Engine” expansion that ushered in a new campaign, major mount changes, and much more. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the mount changes released with the last expansion module let players independently select each mount’s speed while also adding Combat Power and Equip Power options for all mounts. Players will now be able to equip mounts with several different types of insignias, opening up powerful bonuses for the mount.
