‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6: Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen Could Be The Real Villain Of The ‘GOT’ Universe [Spoilers]

In the world of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke’s character Daenerys Targaryen’s father was known as the Mad King. However, could she about to become the Mad Queen? If recent events in the HBO fantasy drama are anything to go by, that could definitely be the case. Since the start of Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen is a character that viewers have constantly found themselves rooting for. However, recent events in the show suggest that Emilia Clarke’s character could become the real villain of Westeros.

According to Vanity Fair, the theory came to light following the most recent episode of Game of Thrones Season 6, so there are going to be spoilers involved in explaining it. Targaryen is discussing ruling Westeros with one of her most trusted advisors, Daario Naharis. However, Daario questions Daenerys over how exactly she intends to rule Westeros, pointing out that she’s a conqueror; born to take lands – but not necessarily rule them.

He has an incredibly valid point too. Since Season 1, Daenerys Targaryen has managed to successfully take control of a number of great cities in Essos. However, where she’s struggled has been in maintaining control, with many pointing out that her rule has brought more trouble than good to many of those great cities.

As reported by Nerdist, there’s no denying that Daenerys Targaryen has spread a lot of good across the world of Game of Thrones, especially through freeing many from slavery. However, something appears to have changed in the character: she now appears focused on what she wants. That was especially prominent in the most recent episode of the show, as she commanded her followers to help her in taking the Iron Throne – or her birthright, as she now refers to it – much like her brother once did.

It would be easy to dismiss the scene as Daenerys Targaryen growing closer to her home of Westeros. However, in that same episode, Bran Stark saw a flashback to the Mad King’s rule, as he shouted “burn them all,” seemingly lighting his enemies in flames. For regular viewers of Game of Thrones, last week’s episode saw the Khaleesi setting fire to her enemies in Vaes Dothrak, much like her father, the Mad King did many years ago.

Readers of George R.R. Martin’s book series will be more than aware that Daenerys Targaryen regularly worries about becoming like the Mad King. However, that’s a theme that’s largely been left out of the show, possibly to make the fact that it’s now happening, even more of a shock.

The idea that Emilia Clarke’s character could actually be the biggest villain of Game of Thrones isn’t a new concept, however. Fans have speculated around the “Mad Queen Daenerys” theory for a good while now, suggesting that Daenerys Targaryen’s lust for power could see her head in the same direction as her father. It might not be all that long before viewers of the show find out exactly what a second Targaryen rule looks like, however, with Daenerys’ army growing and the Greyjoys seemingly looking to supply her with a fleet of ships.

There is one thing for certain, however. The Daenerys Targaryen that viewers of Game of Thrones have seen in Season 6 is an altogether very different character from the innocent young girl that she started as in the first season of the show.
