Norman Reedus Made Peter Fonda A Crossbow Fan With Daryl Dixon-Like Gift

Norman Reedus has been playing one of The Walking Dead’s most lovable tough guys for more than seven seasons now and over the period, it’s become clear the actor has allowed the character and his real personality to become one.

This became more evident than ever when Norman Reedus recently divulged that he managed to get legendary actor Peter Fonda interested in crossbows by giving Fonda the same kind of crossbow Reedus’ character in The Walking Dead carries. It turns out Reedus and Peter Fonda didn’t bond over the two’s love of the undead but instead became fast friends while Reedus was filming his new show that showcases his other real life love.

Ride with Norman Reedus is a new unscripted series hitting the airwaves on AMC, the same network that airs The Walking Dead. In the show, Reedus tools around the country on his motorcycle, another item both Reedus and his character, Daryl Dixon, enjoy using. The Walking Dead star doesn’t travel alone, and in one recent episode that just finished filming, he spent quite a bit of time with Peter Fonda. Mr. Fonda, by his own right, is well known for hopping on a motorcycle and touring the country thanks to his starring role in the classic movie Easy Rider.

Entertainment Weekly reports Norman Reedus and Peter Fonda biked all across Florida and ended up down in Key West for the series premiere, which airs on June 12. Reedus, for one, seems to have been absolutely starstruck to be able and spend so much time with Fonda.

“To sit with Peter Fonda and talk about Easy Rider in a place he used to live… the stories were just mind blowing left and right.”

It was while Reedus and Fonda were sitting and talking that opportunity to give Fonda his own crossbow came up. Reedus says the two actors were sitting at an airport bar, bonding with a number of Navy sailors, when the company that makes the crossbows Daryl Dixon uses on The Walking Dead texted him. Norman says the firm had a brand new model they wanted him to try out. Inspiration struck, and the actor asked if Fonda could get his own crossbow from the company as well.

The firm had no problem with this, and it appears Fonda has become quite a fan since he first got his hands on one of these weapons. Bleeding Cool reports Fonda has kept in touch with Reedus and has been playing with his new toy often. The Walking Dead actor reports the former Easy Rider star has formulated plans to outfit his new crossbow with all kinds of different additions, such as a laser sight, that will make it much easier to hit his target.

It’s clear Norman Reedus thoroughly enjoyed his time with the veteran actor considering he tended to talk more like a fan than a coworker throughout the recent interview. This tone was the norm while he talked about Fonda despite the fact the two had worked together before. Reedus and Fonda starred alongside one another in Boondocks Saints 2, but it appears they didn’t get to spend as much time together off set as they did while they were filming this new motorcycle-themed reality show.

The new series might be Reedus’ passion project at the moment, but there doesn’t appear to be any plans to set aside his appearances on The Walking Dead anytime soon. Unless you’re one of those people who think Daryl Dixon is the Walking Dead character who was killed at the end of the show’s latest season, that is. We wonder whether Norman Reedus might eventually invite Peter Fonda to make a cameo on his other AMC network series sometime in the future.
