WWE News: Vince McMahon Showing Interest In Bringing Former WWE Superstar Back To The Company

“Never say never.” WWE fans have become accustomed to that phrase over the years as it pertains to former WWE superstars coming back to the company, or stars from around the world arriving in WWE when general consensus was that it’d never happen. Just this week alone, fans were treated to a glimpse of Goldberg’s return to WWE, albeit in a video game. AJ Styles appearing in the same ring as John Cena was never thought possible, but it happened Monday night, and the announcers made sure you realized that you were witnessing something special.

The Ultimate Warrior made amends. Sting finally made it to the WWE. Shane McMahon returned after a seven-year absence. Point is, Vince McMahon keeps his doors open for just about anybody if he thinks it might be best for the bottom line, and time heals most wounds in the sports entertainment industry. Time will certainly tell on whether a reunion between WWE and CM Punk could ever become a reality, and former stars like Kurt Angle and Matt and Jeff Hardy have all expressed an interest in returning before they officially hang up their wrestling boots.

Well, now there’s another former WWE superstar who has re-captured the eye of McMahon, and although he never quite advanced to the WWE’s main event scene, the potential was certainly there. John Morrison, who currently wrestles under the name Johnny Mundo in Lucha Underground, has apparently drawn interest from Vince in recent weeks, according to Ringside News. So much so, that Vince has been asking those close to Morrison about his contract status and how long he might be committed to any particular organization. Back in January, Morrison revealed to Channel Guide Magazine that eventually, the feeling might be mutual.

“When I was at WWE I wrestled everyone on the roster and I left because I felt it was time for me to go. I did have plans on going back at some point. I still think that could happen. You never know what could happen in professional wrestling. But here I have King Cuerno, Prince Puma, Fenix, Mil Muertes and Son of Havoc to test myself against.”

The interest from Vince McMahon’s camp is further illustration that the WWE is exploring every option possible to bolster their roster. The upcoming brand split will require both RAW and Smackdown to have their own unique rosters, writing staffs, and announce teams, with Smackdown set to air live on Tuesday nights beginning in July. Vince revealed on a recent conference call that the roster would be the biggest the company has ever had, and that they’d be scouring the independent scene and other promotions, in addition to promoting many of their NXT talents, in order to fill out both sides of the brand extension.

The roster has already changed drastically since Morrison’s last WWE appearance in 2011, with the exception of a few top stars headlined by John Cena among others. But Morrison, aka Mundo, is certainly keeping up with the company he departed almost five years ago. In an interview with Latin Post this past March, Morrison detailed who he’d like to face if he were ever to return to the WWE. He’s got his eyes on two-thirds of The Shield (who currently occupy the main event for Money In The Bank), complimenting one, while taking a shot at the other.

“I’d just love to have a great match with Seth Rollins. Roman Reigns, I’d love to wrestle him in like 10 years if he’s still wrestling, because by then hopefully he’d figure out how to work.”

It is not known Morrison’s contract status at this time, but the fact that Vince McMahon himself has been asking around about his availability is a good sign for a reunion in the near future.
