Floyd Mayweather Tweets Poster For Rumored Fight With Conor McGregor

It’s clear that boxing’s pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather badly wants to fight UFC mega-star Conor McGregor. Several weeks ago, Floyd leaked a rumor that he and the UFC featherweight champ were negotiating a deal that would involve a boxing bout between the two combat sports superstars. So far, nothing has been made official, and UFC president Dana White has told various media outlets that the rumored bout won’t be taking place.

Conor McGregor, who has been at odds with the UFC brass over the last month or so, recently patched things up with Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta, and it looks like he’ll be fighting on a UFC card at some point later this year, possibly against Nate Diaz. But, so far, the UFC hasn’t been able to get Diaz to accept the fight.

If the McGregor vs. Diaz rematch gets made, then it’s very likely that the rumored Floyd Mayweather fight won’t happen. But, again, it’s clear that Mayweather wants it, and it’s also very clear that Conor McGregor wants the fight as well.

McGregor tweeted a photo of the poster for the rumored “boxing vs. MMA” fight shortly after he was pulled from the UFC 200 card. On Sunday night, Floyd Mayweather did the very same thing, as he tweeted a photo that suggested that he and McGregor have come to an agreement.

About a week ago, Conor McGregor was interviewed by ESPN, and he seemed confident that he could defeat Mayweather if he ever stepped into the ring with him, saying that he has the youth, skill-set, and the reach to defeat the 49-0 pay-per-view giant.

McGregor also told ESPN that it’d be a relief to only have to focus on one aspect of fighting, as opposed to focusing on all of the aspects of mixed martial arts.

There have been rumors that, if the fight were to happen, Floyd would earn $100 million, whereas McGregor would earn $7 million. But, according to the UFC champ, those rumors aren’t true, and he made it clear that he wouldn’t accept anything less than $100 million to do the rumored mega-fight.

“I hear the boy talking… The leak came out, and it was him who leaked the rumor, and he said he gets $100 million while I get $7 million. That’s a pay-cut to me – I don’t take pay-cuts, I thought boxing was where the money was at. The $7 million is absolutely laughable, he’s talking $100 million and I’m also talking $100 million.”

According to Fox’s Colin Cowherd, the fight between Mayweather and McGregor has been made official, and it will be taking place this coming September. It’s also been rumored that it’ll be a Showtime pay-per-view.

Mayweather’s last bout against Andre Berto, which was supposed to be his retirement fight, completely bombed on pay-per-view. So, it’s no surprise that Mayweather is wanting an opponent who’s already a gigantic star.

Many believe that Mayweather is not only looking for an opponent who’s a major star, but, on top of that, he wants to fight someone who he’s confident that he can beat, because he wants to protect his undefeated record.

Conor McGregor is looked at as a fantastic striker in the world of mixed martial arts, but there are many, including UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, who believe that the UFC featherweight champ wouldn’t fare too well if he boxed Floyd Mayweather. But, McGregor is confident that he can win, and it’ll certainly be a must-see bout if it ends up happening.
