Kareem Abdul-Jabbar To Get Statue At The Staples Center

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has six NBA titles, six NBA MVP awards, multiple scoring titles, and sometime during the 2012-13 NBA season he’ll get his very own statue.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be honored with a new statue sometime this season outside of the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Fox Sports reports that Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn and Jerry West all have statues on the Star Plaza at the Staples Center. The Lakers didn’t say when the new statue would be unveiled but it will happen sometime during the 2012-13 NBA season.

In 2010, Abdul-Jabbar said he felt insulted by the Lakers when they chose to erect a statue of Magic Johnson.

Kareem said at the time:

“I don’t understand (it). It’s either an oversight or they’re taking me for granted. I’m not going to try to read people’s minds, but it doesn’t make me happy. It’s definitely a slight. I feel slighted.”

Kareem also expressed anger with the Lakers after being passed up for a coaching position and, according to the star, for having to sit at the back of the plane on team trips.

Well, it looks like the Lakers and Abdul-Jabber have made up.

Kareem definitely deserves the honor. He is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and helped bring the Lakers five NBA Championships.

The Lakers are doing the right thing by giving Kareem Abdul-Jabbar his own statue but they better make sure that it’s done well. Otherwise Kareem will have something else to complain about.

Here’s a look at some highlights from his career.

And if you don’t think Kareem Abdul-Jabber deserves a statue for his athleticism, how about for his acting?
