Lady Gaga Spiced Up The 100th Indianapolis 500 As A Substitute For Keith Urban

Lady Gaga spiced up the Indianapolis 500 by taking Keith Urban place in the passenger seat of Mario Andretti’s two-seat racer for a ceremonial appearance just before the 100th running of the race started. Country singer Keith Urban had to pull out of the ceremonial appearance because he was recovering from a back injury.

Lady Gaga and Mario Andretti led the official pace car on the three ceremonial laps around the track. Andretti playfully said he would try not to be too distracted by Lady Gaga being in his two-seater racer with him, according to the tweet below.

“I have yet to meet her, personally,” Andretti said early this morning before the Indianapolis 500 was scheduled to start reported USA Today. “She decided to do it, and all of a sudden here we are.”

In addition to Lady Gaga, Star Trek actor Chris Pine also had a role to play during the Indianapolis 500. Chris Pine was responsible for waving the green flag to signal the start of the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday, according to Daily Mail.

David Letterman, who was also at the Indianapolis 500, joked about being drunk during his interview Daily Mail reported.

More than 400,000 spectators witnessed the Indianapolis 500 this year. Many attended to watch and see if Juan Pablo Montoya, last year’s champion, would defend his title. Unfortunately, he crashed and was out of the race at lap 64. It was rookie Alexander Rossi who had never raced in the Indianapolis 500 that rose to the top and won.

Letterman, who co-owns Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, was represented by driver Graham Rahal Sunday. “If we don’t win the 100th running, I have every intention of faking my own death,” Letterman said before the race started.

It was very last minute that Lady Gaga stepped in to replace Keith Urban. According to Daily Mail, Lady Gaga spent a lot of time looking relaxed in shorts and a t-shirt near the track.

Gaga was completely surrounded by her entourage at the Indianapolis 500 until she was joined by Andretti. The now-retired professional driver took Lady Gaga’s hand and showed her around the Speedway like a gentleman.

“She’s going to distract me quite a bit, actually,” Andretti told USA Today before the ride. “I hope I can just look ahead while I’m driving.”

Lady Gaga even gave Andretti and team owner Michael Andretti each a kiss on the cheek before the race started.

“Travel to any corner of the globe and people know exactly who Lady Gaga is,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said.

Lady Gaga made her star appearance in Indianapolis just after rumors started to spread that she might be working on recording some new music. It was last weekend that Mark Ronson shared a picture on Instagram showing that Gaga was collaborating at the recording studio with Kevin Parker and producer BloodPop. “Illusions,” was all Mark wrote as the caption of the picture.

The only thing more exciting than Lady Gaga’s last minute appearance as the substitute for Keith Urban was rookie Alexander Rossi winning the Indianapolis 500. The rookie ended up winning the race because he took a gamble and stretched the amount of fuel he had as far as he could. The rookie had so little fuel left in his vehicle that he was only able to finish the race, the car couldn’t be driven much further than the finish line without getting more fuel.

Did you watch the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 today? What did you think about Alexander Rossi winning? And, did you think Lady Gaga was a fitting replacement for Keith Urban who was unable to attend because of a back injury?
