Kanye West’s L.A. Studio Robbed, But Thieves Won’t Get Much Out Of The $20,000 Equipment [Video]

Kanye West’s Calabasas, California, studio has been robbed — and police think it’s an inside job. According to TMZ, on May 23, about $20,000 in equipment was stolen from the unassuming looking building, so police and Kanye believe the thief had insider knowledge about the contents of his office. Currently, there are no suspects.

The break-in was discovered the following morning, when police were called to the studio after Kanye West’s posse discovered the door had been pried open. Kanye wasn’t around at the time, and according to the Daily Mail, the rapper was in London and didn’t return to Los Angeles until the following evening.

More concerning than the loss of the robbed equipment — which was immediately replaced — is the potential loss of the music, product ideas, and Yeezy fashions that were stored on the computers. Since the Yeezy fashion line is some of the most counterfeited clothing out there, it’s quite possible that any leaked designs would end up on the street before Kanye himself had the chance to finish them.

But Kanye and his crew didn’t seem that worried about anyone accessing the super-sensitive material. According to a West insider, there’s so much encrypted security on the devices that whoever robbed Kanye will never be able to access the material. Although nobody mentioned it when asked about the robbery, Kanye likely had backup files on the equipment, or the rapper would likely be freaking out more.

This isn’t the first time Kanye West has been robbed. Right after the rapper put his Hollywood Hills home on the market in 2012, the mansion was broken into, although police were unable to determine whether anything had actually been stolen. At the time, Kanye was unavailable to return to California since he was in the middle of an overseas tour.

West also isn’t the first Keeping Up With The Kardashians star to be robbed. Just a few weeks ago, Blac Chyna, who is engaged to Rob Kardashian, was relieved of over $200,000 in cash and jewelry when a thief broke into a secure safe in her mansion.

While there have been no suspects in that break-in as well, Kardashian fans believe Blac Chyna was robbed by someone close to the model, since there seemed to be no signs of forced entry. In fact, sources have alleged that the break in was simply a way to leak a sex tape filmed by Chyna and her ex-boyfriend, Tyga, without having to take responsibility for the video. The break-in was discovered by Rob Kardashian, who noticed the open safe and called the police. As of yet, there are no suspects in that robbery.

It’s likely whoever robbed Kanye West, if found, will be in some big trouble, not just with the law, but with West himself. According to Us Weekly, Kanye West is threatening to sue a former bodyguard for breaching his confidentiality agreements with the rapper, so it’s obvious Kanye doesn’t stand for anyone harming his brand.

Security guard Steve Stanulis spoke with the New York Daily News about his experiences working with Kanye during the Yeezy Season 3 launch and again when West was in New York City for the Met Gala, but according to attorneys for Kanye and Kim Kardashian, the stories were lies and “a desperate, transparent and shameless attempt for publicity.”

In a statement released publicly, a lawyer for Kanye West claimed that the rapper and his wife “will no longer tolerate the spreading and selling of fake stories,” and are threatening to sue the security guard for several million dollars, confirming that “the Wests will explore all legal means at their disposal to silence this nonsense.”
