Johnny Depp: Amber Heard Claims ‘Paranoia, Delusions, And Aggression’ Amid ‘Continued Substance Abuse’

In a sworn court statement, Amber Heard alleges that Johnny Depp’s attack on her on May 21 was fueled by substance abuse, according to a report from The Telegraph. She charges that while she was trying to comfort him over the death of his mother, Depp was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs; he allegedly changed in the course of their conversation.

“Suddenly he began obsessing about something that was untrue and his demeanour changed dramatically. He became extremely angry. He then forcibly pulled back my hair as I attempted to stand up from the sofa.

“Johnny continued screaming at me, pulling my hair, striking me and violently grabbing my face.”

In her statement, Amber describes Depp using a magnum of champagne like a baseball bat to destroy anything he could in their condominium.

Heard alleges an alcohol and drug abuse problem that makes Depp paranoid, delusional, and aggressive. She charges that his problem has been going on for years and that when he is under the influence she is afraid of him.

“Johnny’s relationship with reality oscillates depending upon his interaction with alcohol and drugs. As Johnny’s paranoia, delusions and aggression increased throughout our relationship so has my awareness of his continued substance abuse.

“He has a short fuse. He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous or life threatening to me.”

As Entertainment Tonight reported on Friday, Heard was granted a restraining order against Johnny. She claimed that 52-year-old Depp abused her physically and otherwise throughout their relationship.

“During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me. I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”

During her last argument with Depp, the 30-year-old actress says that Johnny told her to call iO Tillet Wright, a mutual friend and professional photographer. In the course of that call, Depp allegedly yanked the phone from her and yelled obscenities at Wright, who shouted at Heard to get out of the house. Amber responded by yelling to Wright to contact 911. She claimed that at this point, Johnny threw the phone at her face, causing a bruise. The fight came to an end, Heard alleged, when a friend of hers who had a key came to their home.

Los Angeles police have confirmed receiving a call from a third party on Saturday, but found no evidence of a crime. They indicate that Amber did not name Depp at the time, and that she claimed the altercation was strictly verbal. Johnny was not present when police spoke with her.

Depp’s representatives state that he is out of the country for work and is not aware of the allegations. Amber filed for divorce from Johnny on Monday. They were married for 15 months. Johnny and Heard did not have a prenuptial agreement. She is asking for spousal support, which his legal team is fighting.

Johnny Depp’s alcohol and substance abuse is widely known and acknowledged, but this is the first time he has been accused of violence in a relationship. Ex-wife Lori Anne Allison has stated that he was never physical with her, and Depp’s partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, has stated the same. TMZ published a letter written by Paradis in which she questions the validity of Heard’s charges. The letter reads, in part, as follows.

“In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years.”

Depp’s latest film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, opened on Friday to worse than expected box office numbers.
