Gigi Hadid And Kendall Jenner Cause A Fierce Twitter War

Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner are two girls that most would consider to be kids of the Instagram age. And with both having rich and popular parents, there is no doubt that many consider their high profile modelling careers to have been largely aided by their last names and that they haven’t really earned their places in the modelling world.

This was the aspect echoed by Rebecca Romijn while speaking to Entertainment Tonight, while answering a question on what she thought of the new generation of models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. The following was her response.

“No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue. So it is frustrating. I know a lot of people — legitimate fashion people — can’t stand it. Hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They are not true supermodels.

“And the thing is, I have always looked to Vogue magazine to lead the way, not be a follower. I rely on Vogue to set the standard, not follow what everybody else is doing. So I have been disappointed that fashion magazines have been supporting this trend of social media stars to set our style standards. But it will change; fashion always does.”

However, one person just couldn’t sit back following such a statement against her daughter, and that is Yolanda Hadid, Gigi Hadid’s mom. She took to Twitter to square it out with Rebecca, stating that her daughter and Kendall Jenner had worked hard to get to where they are. The following was her tweet.

“Kind, hard working and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry @KendallJenner @GiGiHadid https://t.co/WKBeORnQb6

Yolanda also stressed the following point to a Twitter user.

“It’s THEIR hard work and daily commitment to their profession that got them where they R today #NoParentsInvolved https://t.co/5HGeJPBNHe

That said, Rebecca asked Gigi Hadid and Kendall to ignore the assumption that she talked smack about them. The following was the tweet.

“hey @kendalljenner @gigihadid don’t believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful.”

However Twitter users couldn’t help but chime in, with some offering that indeed Kendall Jenner and Gigi were not true models. The following are some of the tweets related to this.

This is just ridiculous, @YolandaHFoster! I’m sure these are some nice girls, but let’s face it, they are NOT SUPERmodels! Instagram, yes.

However, both Gigi Hadid’s and Kendall Jenner’s fans pointed out that it takes more than just having celebrity parents to be a model. The following are some of the tweets related to this.
