Many people think that Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult would make a lovely pair; and now fans can finally see their chemistry as they get intimate in their upcoming film Equals. The movie, which is directed by Drake Doremus, will have a limited theatrical release on July 15, but it can also be seen on DirecTV Cinema on May 26.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the 33-year-old film director revealed how he carefully structured the shoot so that the bathroom scene was the first time that the lead stars touched each other in the movie.
“It was this release and this feeling. What happens in the film was really happening on set,” Doremus explained.
The highly-acclaimed director also revealed that he filmed the scenes in 30-minute takes. He also has hours of footage of Kristen and Nicholas touching each other’s faces and hands because he thinks it is impossible to cut down the love scene into a couple of minutes.
“I think they were just losing themselves,” Drake said. “At that point, they’re just in it.”
According to ET, the love scene of Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult is so sensual and explosive that it will surely be nominated, if not win, the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss. Both came out from a high-profile breakup, that’s why there were rumors coming out that the two are using each other as a rebound.
During an interview with The Daily Beast, the Twilight star talked about how Equals helped her deal with her breakup from Robert Pattinson. The 26-year-old actress was dumped by the British heartthrob after her cheating scandal with her former director Rupert Sanders came out.
“It was incredibly painful,” Stewart confessed. “Ugh, fucking kill me. It was a really good time for both of us to make this movie. Not all of my friends have been through what I’ve been through, or what some people have tasted at a relatively-speaking young age, and we were not expected to do anything.”
While Kristen deals with the controversy and heartbreak from her breakup with Rob, Nic had an easier time dealing with his split up with Jennifer Lawrence since both remained good friends after that. In fact, the exes co-starred in the recently shown Marvel movie X-Men: Apocalypse.
“We all felt akin by how much we’ve been through, and to utilize that is so scary,” Stewart explained. “And to acknowledge it, reassess, and jump back into it? Usually you want to move on. But at least we could use some of that for some good.”
“Relationships,” she added, “you just never fucking know.”
While Kristen Stewart used Equals to deal with her heartbreak from Robert Pattinson, Nicholas Hoult was uncomfortable watching himself get intimate with his co-star. Maybe that’s a sign that he’s really not into the actress who has been rumored to be dating other women.
“In a way, it’s very weird to do that type of scene,” he told Vulture. “It was actually very weird the first time I watched the film. I was like, ‘wow, that’s me, but I feel I shouldn’t be watching it’.”
Drake Doremus reacted to the actor’s comment regarding his love scene with his co-star. The director explained that the 26-year-old screen heartthrob may have found the love scene so intimate and personal that he got uncomfortable watching himself let loose in the film. Nicholas Hoult also denied that he is dating Kristen Stewart while the actress remained quiet about that issue.
“Of course there’s always going to be speculation on those things,” he told PEOPLE. “But there’s also a whole business behind people kind of fueling those fires and creating speculation out of nothing.”
