Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill have been in a relationship since 2015, and since then a lot has happened, but the two have defied naysayers and made their relationship work against the odds. One of those has been the rift between Drake and Meek Mill, which has threatened to break down the relationship between the former and Nicki Minaj.
It started when Meek Mill stated on social media that he didn’t want people comparing him to Drake, as the rapper did not in fact write his own lyrics. However, it was observed by many that Meek Mill went into the beef woefully unprepared, considering that Drake was arguably a “bigger” star than he was and had a greater following.
As such, Meek Mill risked isolating his Drake fans as he was still a rising star and facing an opponent who had a more experienced team behind him. And the result was that Drake managed to drop diss tracks that Meek Mill couldn’t counter, and when he tried, they weren’t considered to be “hits.” This is not to mention that Drake already had the numbers backing him in terms of popularity.
Eventually, Meek Mill “saw the light” and dropped the beef, at least momentarily, by posting a message on Twitter stating that it was unwise to get involved in a rap feud in the first place. The following was his exact message as reported by Hollywood Life.
“We really only focusing on making it out that’s the only war we fighting… I’m not entertaining no rap/real beef over drake s/o rapper! I can’t fall for the oldest trick in the book and I never shoulda entertained it bcuz it won’t bring me no money or success.. Ima take blame for it even tho “I can stand” anything I do or say and n****z know.
Everybody know everybody watching and anything beyond what’s going on is stupid to b reacting on about a bunch of n****s just tryna get on and in the game..I been in these streets having money for a long time now ‘shining hard’ and need had a problem with I came up from nothing and my name good.”
That said, Drake and Nicki Minaj have a history and were at one time said to be dating. And just recently, Nicki Minaj was believed to have sent a coded message to Drake via Ariana Grande’s song titled “Side To Side.” The following was the line:
“Kissing me, copped the blue box that say Tiffany/Curry with the shot, just tell ’em to call me Stephanie.”
The words Tiffany and Stephanie are coincidentally also featured in Drake’s lyrics to the song “Hype,” which he released in May. Drake’s line reads, “It cost me 50 at Tiffany’s/Shout out to Tiffany, Stephanie.” The aforementioned lines are believed to be coded messages that the two are using to refer to an experience unique to them.
On their present relationship, Drake and Nicki Minaj are reported to have stayed for a long time without communicating. Apparently, Nicki Minaj has in recent times cut off all communication with the Views rapper in light of his feud with her boyfriend, Meek Mill. Drake recently revealed the following in regards to his relationship with Nicki.
“I don’t really talk to Nicki [Minaj]. [She’s] another person that I have a lot of love for, man, a lot of love and a lot of respect, not only for our past and the time and work we put in, but even the way she dealt with the situation at hand.”
This is as reported by the Mirror.
