Courtney Stodden Pregnant And Depressed, Gets Candid On Morning Sickness

Since announcing her pregnancy last week, Courtney Stodden is getting candid about everything she’s been feeling at the start of her pregnancy.

At only six weeks, Courtney Stodden is feeling nervous about her first pregnancy like most young women. The 21-year-old model and reality star revealed that there’s something else she’s going through in her life.

“I suffer from depression,” Stodden told Us Weekly.

And her pregnancy symptoms have made it worse, which means she has been diagnosed with prenatal depression.

“My depression affects my appetite, sleeping patterns and overall perspective on life. At times, I have severe insomnia and other times I find myself sleeping too much. I have feelings of hopelessness but experience many moments of absolute euphoria.”

Courtney admitted that she currently takes Xanax to manage her depression and anxiety. Stodden joins a staggering 14 to 23 percent of women who struggle with prenatal depression, according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. This explains why Courtney seemed uncertain when she broke the news to Us Weekly on May 16.

“It’s a bittersweet time for me right now. I’m dealing with a lot of stress and emotions surrounding life and its ups and downs. Doug and I weren’t planning on going public with this so soon. I’m only four weeks along in my pregnancy. But some things are out of your control.”

She shared similar sentiments in an interview with Entertainment Tonight when she spoke out about the shocking pregnancy news.

“I feel happy about it but extremely overwhelmed. I’m going through a lot at the moment. This wasn’t a planned pregnancy. But life happens.”

Stodden has channeled her sadness and anxiety into writing. She revealed that she’s working on her first self-help book, titled Blonde & Blue, that will give fans a glimpse into Stodden’s life and struggles as she grew up in the public eye. She’s hoping that her book will inspire others who are going through the same thing.

This is her first child with husband Doug Hutchison, 55. The couple made headlines in May of 2011 when the starlet married the actor when she was just 16-years-old. At the time, Hutchison was 50-years-old. Stodden has been candid about the ups and downs of her pregnancy, including morning sickness.

On Wednesday, May 27, the blonde bombshell shared an Instagram photo of herself in an unflattering light. In the photo below, Courtney is seen resting her head on the toilet bowl. Doug, who took the photo, helped her keep her hair out of the toilet.

Then Courtney took to Twitter to reveal to her followers that she finally recovered from her day-long morning sickness.

But prenatal depression hasn’t stopped Courtney Stodden from celebrating life. Radar Online reported that Stodden renewed her vows yet again to Hutchison on their fifth wedding anniversary. However, she did not invite her mom, Krista Keller.

Stodden explained to Radar Online why she and Hutchison decided to renew their vows for the second time in front of the iconic Hollywood sign.

“We wanted to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary by renewing our wedding vows. Since Hollywood brought us together in the first place, the thought of the ceremony taking place beneath the Hollywood sign made complete sense to us both.”

Courtney and Doug briefly separated in 2012 and appeared on VH1’s Couple’s Therapy. A year later, the couple reunited and renewed their vows after Courtney made an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. She most recently appeared on episodes of Lifetime’s The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition alongside her estranged mother.
