‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ After-Credits Scene: Spoilers And Easter Eggs Hidden At End Could Give Major Clue About New Wolverine Movie

Fans who see X-Men: Apocalypse this weekend will want to know if it’s worth staying to the bitter end for an after-credits scene, which has become a staple of the superhero genre.

Many comic book franchises have taken to adding scenes at the very end of the credits that offer new details on the superhero universe or offer clues about upcoming movies, and the X-Men franchise is no exception.

X-Men: Apocalypse is not one to buck that trend — at least, not completely. The latest movie in the series has its own post-credits scene that serves as a bit of a spoiler for an upcoming movie, but it doesn’t have the complete slate of a post-credits scene that Marvel fans have come to expect.

Marvel has something of a formula to its end-credits scenes, with one that comes after the stylized credit sequences and a second one after the entire credits have ended. That was the case with the recent Captain America: Civil War and a number of other movies dating back to the early days of the franchise.

But not X-Men: Apocalypse. Instead, the movie, which comes out Friday, will have just one after-credits scene showing at the very end, one that tells a bit of the future of the mysterious Weapon X facility.

The blog Attack of the Fanboy shares more of the details of the after-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse.

“Anyway, in the middle of the film you would have seen Wolverine breaking out of William Stryker’s Weapon X facility. The place was pretty much left in shambles since Wolverine killed Stryker’s men even though Stryker himself escaped.

“In the post credits scene, we see a team of men overseeing the damage that has been done and then a man picks up a blood sample of Weapon X. Weapon X is of course Wolverine so this means this man might be responsible for creating X-23 who is basically a female mutant with claws. Gamers might remember she is a playable character in Marvel vs Capcom 3.”

The report noted that the X-Men: Apocalypse after-credits scene likely serves as a precursor to Wolverine 3, Gambit, or the New Mutants movie.

Fans of the series have already gotten a glimpse into the franchise’s future with the latest movie. The R-rated Deadpool had an after-credits scene of its own that revealed a new villain for the series. Following the more traditional Marvel format of two scenes, it first played off a popular 1980s comedy and then hit fans with the reveal, SlashFilm noted.

“The first Deadpool post-credits scene takes the form of a Ferris Bueller parody. Deadpool, sporting a striped bathrobe, makes a snarky reference to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s habit of setting up future films in the credits: ‘What were you expecting? Sam Jackson in an eyepatch?’ And then the second Deadpool post-credits scene, according to ScreenCrush, proceeds to take a page out of the MCU playbook by … setting up future films in the credits.”

The second scene had Deadpool reveal that the villain Cable would make his debut in the sequel. Many fans had expected Cable to be the villain in the first Deadpool movie, something that director Tim Miller noted last year.

“There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable,” he said. “If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

The after-credits scene isn’t the only spoiler for X-Men: Apocalypse that fans will be able to find. There are also a number of deleted scenes floating around, including a cut scene of Nightcrawler which was used in promotional material but isn’t actually in the movie (it can be seen in the video above). Collider has a rundown of the other deleted scenes here.
