‘Mr. Robot’ Season 2: New Teaser Trailer For Amazon Prime Series Ahead Of Streaming In July 2016

Mr. Robot saw a good deal of success upon release in 2015, managing to pick up a cult following of tech-loving fans. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Mr. Robot was quickly picked up for a second season by its distributors, NBC and Amazon, shortly after the first season came to a close. With that second season set to premiere in July, according to Digital Spy, a new teaser trailer has been released for Mr. Robot, with the series set to continue following many similar themes.

The one-minute long teaser trailer for Mr. Robot opens with a news report detailing the fallout of last season’s attack, with E-Corp SVP Tyrell Wellick (played by Martin Wallström) being framed for the attack. He is also wanted for questioning in the murder of Sharon Knowles, the wife of E-Corp Chief CTO Scott Knowles.

As reported by Collider, the new trailer also delves into civil unrest across the globe as a result of a recent global economy crash. The premise of the show sees Mr. Robot, a computer hacker (played by Rami Malek), recruited by the hacking group Fsociety to take down E-Corp and cancel their debts. The first season of Mr. Robot ended with the group managing to hack the massive corporation, with this season looking to deal with the consequences of what comes next.

Prior to its release, Mr. Robot was seen as something of a risk because of its niche subject. However, the series has seen a good deal of success, managing to pick up a Golden Globe for Best Drama earlier this year, with many praising the show for its portrayal of mental illness in such an accurate manner, something that Rami Malek was incredibly pleased with.

“I’ve gotten such a phenomenal response from people that relate to him, and relate to his challenges mentally, that I don’t want to ostracise anybody by saying ‘it’s this’ or ‘it’s that’.”

The second season of Mr. Robot is set to air on the USA Network much like the first season did. However, Amazon has again secured the rights to show the season in the United Kingdom, as part of their Amazon Prime Video streaming service, with Amazon planning to release the second season in the UK immediately after it has aired in the U.S.

Mr. Robot is a big addition to Amazon’s library as part of the Prime Video service. In order to better compete with Netflix, the service has slowly been introducing a range of exclusive titles over the past year, with Mr. Robot being one of those key exclusives in the UK. However, they’ve also seen success with many of their Amazon Prime Original titles, including historical drama The Man in the High Castle, political comedy Alpha House, and the hugely successful British comedy Catastrophe.

Amazon now appears to be updating their Prime Video catalog more consistently than Netflix, the leading streaming service providers. Just last year, Amazon secured the rights to a brand new show from Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, with that show recently being announced as The Grand Tour, which is set to air later this year.

Interestingly, however, Mr. Robot doesn’t currently stream on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., nor does it stream on Netflix. However, considering Amazon now holds the rights to the show in the UK, there’s a good chance that U.S. viewers might be able to find it on the streaming service soon. For now, though, Season 2 of Mr. Robot will air on July 13.
