Madeleine McCann’s Parents Scrutinized For Leaving Children Alone

The parents of missing child Madeleine McCann have come under scrutiny for leaving their children alone the night their daughter vanished. Essential Baby stated that after Sharon Osbourne publicly called Kate and Gerry McCann “insane,” television personality Katie Price has joined the anti-McCann bandwagon.

Price commented against the parents of the missing child, saying that they shouldn’t have brought their kids on holiday with them if they were simply going to abandon them in a room.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, you don’t leave your children. If you are on holiday, your kids sleep in buggies. Why in your right mind would you leave your kids in a room? I don’t care if it is a safe place or if you can see them or not.”

Price’s comments are directed in particular at the fact that Madeleine McCann vanished while she was left unsupervised with her younger siblings in a rental apartment. Kate and Gerry McCann enjoyed dinner and drinks with friends at a tapas bar that was completely out of sight of the apartment where the three-year-old and two infants were left alone. It was during a span of a few hours that little Maddie vanished — either kidnapped or fallen victim to some other situation.

The original comments made by Sharon Osbourne attracted a mixed bag of reactions from the public. Some folks used media sources to express their outrage at her speaking out against the missing child’s parents. Meanwhile, others on social media are uniting in agreement with the woman. Masses of people believe that Kate and Gerry McCann were negligent by leaving their children alone in their rental apartment the night Maddie vanished.

Whether you agree that Kate and Gerry McCann were negligent in how they behaved the night Maddie vanished, there are numerous cases out of the U.K. that indicate parents have been punished for similar behavior. In 2012 a 20-year-old single mother was jailed for leaving her baby home alone at night while she went out to enjoy herself. Fortunately, the infant was never harmed or kidnapped while left unsupervised, but the mother was punished with 15 months of imprisonment. In 2014, at least 16 sets of parents were arrested in a single U.K. town for leaving their children unattended in their homes. In the vast majority of these cases, none of the children came to any harm.

Even though Kate and Gerry McCann admittedly left their children unsupervised the night Maddie vanished, they have never been charged with any crime associated with child neglect or abandonment. This is true even after they were declared suspects in her disappearance at one point. It has been close to a decade since Madeleine vanished, and no arrests have been made, nor are authorities any closer to finding out what happened to her.

Do you think the parents of Madeleine McCann were negligent, or “insane,” to leave her alone the night she disappeared?
