The Walking Dead is trying to keep a tight lid on spoilers, but casting updates are giving fans hints of what is coming. The latest information is that TWD is searching for an actor to play “Rogers.” Who is this person and are they another character from Robert Kirkman’s comic books?
Warning: The Walking Dead Season 7 spoilers are ahead.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, The Walking Dead issued a casting notice for Augustus. It is assumed from the description that Augustus is code for Ezekiel, a character from the comic books. Well, it looks like another member of the Kingdom is coming to TWD.
According to TV Line, a casting notice for “Rogers” has been sent out. The website believes that this is actually Richard from The Walking Dead comic books.
“If you weren’t already convinced that the role of Augustus that The Walking Dead casting is really Ezekiel aka the “king” of The Hilltop community that eventually Richard joins in the Alexandrians’ war against Negan, here’s a little extra proof,” Ask Ausiello‘s column on TV Line revealed. “We hear the show is now looking for an actor to play Rogers, a straight-talking horseman who sounds a lot like His Highness’ right-hand man, Richard. (Fearless prediction: Next they’ll cast Ezekiel’s tiger.)”
Who exactly is Richard in The Walking Dead comic books? First introduced in Issue 115, Richard is one of Ezekiel’s guards and closest allies. In the TWD comic books, Richard appears at Michonne’s house and introduces himself. Richard, Ezekiel, Rick, Michonne, and others discuss the plan to attack Negan and the Saviors. Later in the comic books, Richard is one of the soldiers that marches to the Sanctuary.
As fans know, The Kingdom, Hilltop Colony and Alexandria will work together to defeat Negan and the Saviors. However, don’t expect Negan to die in The Walking Dead. In the comics, he is actually kept a prisoner but keeps finding his way out of the cage to taunt Rick Grimes.
As for what to expect from Negan in upcoming episodes of the zombie series, the official website for The Walking Dead gave a few hints.
“…This could result in an ongoing struggle between Rick and Negan,” The Walking Dead official website teased about Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character. “In the comics, the head-bashing scene ignites a conflict between The Saviors and Alexandria referred to as ‘All Out War.’ For spoiler reasons we can’t divulge too much but know that if it happens in the show it’ll be one of the most climactic story arcs YET.”
Back to Richard in the comic books; he only lasts from Issue 115 to 118. He ends up getting shot in the chest by one of the Saviors. He dies in Ezekiel’s arms. It is unknown if he will last longer on the TV show. However, viewers should feel something for a character who dies, especially if they pass away in Ezekiel’s arms.
Other TWD Season 7 spoilers state that there will be a car chase, Daryl Dixon gets kidnapped by Negan, and there is an attack at Alexandria. As for who Negan killed with Lucille, that information has not been revealed yet. However, fans are busy speculating on who Negan murdered with his barbed wire baseball bat.
What do you think of The Walking Dead casting a man named Rogers? Is this actually Richard from the TWD comic books? If so, which actor would be perfect for the part? What do you expect will happen with Rogers storyline when the zombie series returns later this year?
