ABC’s ‘The Catch’ Finale Is A Prelude To A Tasty Season 2 [Spoilers]

ABC’s The Catch Season 1 ended with a massive cliffhanger, which seemed to suggest that when Season 2 finally comes, it will be worth the wait. ABC aired back-to-back episodes of The Catch, namely “The Happy Couple” Episode 9 and “The Wedding” Episode 10.

ABC’s The Catch has been about strategically planned missions that bring solutions to problems by the end of an episode (whether it’s about stealing something, conning someone, or investigating a case). The Catch’s season finale saw the introduction of Rhys (John Simm) and Margot’s (Sonya Walger) mother Sybil Griffiths (Lesley Nicol), Downton Abbey, to the scene. She immediately took over the show by demonstrating her authority while running things at “The Kensington firm.”

She was also the architect of the series’ deadliest heist, which saw her firm exchange the fake notes printed by Leah Wells (Nia Vardalos), My Big Greek Wedding, with real currency notes from one of her black market rivals.

However, Margot plays the ace card by simultaneously moving the cash to a different van and in the process robbing off her mother’s firm nearly $20 million. By the time Sybil notices what Margot did, she’s already at the hands of the FBI and headed to jail after being caught moving the final batch of the cash.

On the other hand, Rhys had planned with Alice (Mireille Enos) and Ben (Peter Krause) to fly away to a safe place in the fear that his mother would kill Ben after completing the wedding heist. So it appears Rhys’ relationship with Ben, despite the latter having betrayed the firm goes deeper than just the family business.

However, The Catch is full of surprises and this time around it showcased one of the shows biggest cliffhangers when the plan for the three to fly out came short. Alice left to pick up some personal things from her house before flying out. When she arrived, everything had been turned upside down as the FBI ransacked the whole place looking for more evidence in connection with the painting that Ben gave her after stealing it from the art gala.

As expected, Alice managed to get herself out of custody by simply using her experience in private investigation. However, by the time she got at the office, the FBI was there again and this time, they managed to find evidence linking her to the stolen painting.

Alice is then arrested, but just before she’s escorted out of the door on her way to jail, Ben arrives and confesses to the crime. At this point, it would be ideal to assume that both are taken to the station upon which Ben is asked to sign a confession while Alice is released. On the other hand, Margot continues to enjoy her big win after getting her mother’s money and having her locked in jail.

As such, the events in The Catch Season 1 finale appear to set a fitting prelude to the show’s second season in which case, the storyline could differ significantly. In the recently concluded first season of ABC’s The Catch, Ben works with Margot and later The FBI.

However, in Season 2 of The Catch, things could change dramatically. There is a possibility that Rhys, Alice, and Ben could continue to work together. Alice and her firm could work on the legal side to help in the release of Ben while Rhys and his family firm could use their influence in the legal system.

Eventually, it appears as though there will always be two opposing forces in ABC’s The Catch, besides other episode titles. Margot appears to have already highlighted Alice as her number one enemy after making that anonymous call that ruined Alice’s plans of flying away with Ben.

On the other hand, Rhys appears to have a better connection with Alice and Ben than he does with his sister. Reggie (Alimi Ballard), Leah and a few members of The Kensington firm are the only allies to Margot, but by the time the second season of The Catch begins, she might have recruited a few more to join her team.

This could be a perfect setting for The Catch Season 2 as Alice and her team (her firm, Ben, and Rhys) go head to head with Margot and her band of fellow criminals that continue to evade law enforcers. The Catch Season 2 is set to be a tasty one, full of drama, adventure, and more heists.
