‘Dancing With The Stars’: Ginger Zee Injured, May Not Perform On Finale

Ginger Zee, a meteorologist for Good Morning America, is among the celebrities who have made it to the Dancing for the Stars finale. Tomorrow night will be the first part of the finale and will include the last two dances by each Dancing With the Stars couple. That will be followed by part two of the finale on Tuesday night. It’s during this Dancing With the Stars broadcast that we will learning who will take home the coveted mirrorball trophy. Judges have raved about Ginger’s progress in Season 22 of the show, but now her ability to perform in the Dancing With the Stars finale is in question due to an injury she suffered this week.

ABC News is reporting that Zee injured her pelvis during a Dancing With the Stars rehearsal this week. She stated that she felt a spasm in her lower back that took her breath away while at home. She attended rehearsal with Dancing With the Stars partner Val Chmerkovskiy following the pain. She continued explaining what happened.

“By Wednesday, I went to see a physical therapist for the show, Gina [Minchella], and she said my pelvis was forward and an inch off. I came back the next day, and [my pelvis] was backward and an inch the other way. My pelvis was just moving all over.”

Zee credits the mobility of her pelvis to her recent pregnancy. She delivered a child in December, the first for her and husband Ben Aaron.

Sunday is the day that Dancing With the Stars does camera blocking for the Monday night broadcast. Because of Ginger’s injury, someone is standing in for her today. People magazine’s Dancing With the Stars source spoke about where things stand at the moment.

“Right now she can’t dance at 100 percent and [troupe member] Jenna Johnson is standing in for her during camera blocking today. She won’t know until tomorrow if she can do the dances. Ginger is seeing the show’s physical therapist and is resting so that hopefully she will be able to dance tomorrow night.”

Ginger and Val are scheduled to perform both a contemporary dance and a freestyle dance on tomorrow night’s Dancing With the Stars finale. Doctors have told her that because of her injury, she is not allowed to perform some of the moves. Dance pro Jenna Johnson is standing in for her at this time, which means that Zee is missing some critical practice time before the finale.

Ginger is one of three Dancing With the Stars finalists who will make their final bid for the mirrorball trophy tomorrow night. The other competitors are Nyle DiMarco (who will perform with Peta Murgatroyd) and Paige VanZant (who will perform with Mark Ballas). The season began with 12 competing couples. The celebrities who were eliminated in previous episodes of Dancing With the Stars are Mischa Barton, Antonio Brown, Kim Fields, Doug Flutie, Marla Maples, Von Miller, Geraldo Rivera, Wanya Morris, and Jodie Sweetin.

Dancing With the Stars first aired in 2005. Since its premiere that first year, including this year’s competitors, 248 celebrities have competed. Dancing With the Stars is based on a British show titled Strictly Come Dancing. DWTS is hosted by Tom Bergeron, who has hosted all 22 seasons. Behind the judging table are Carrie Innaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli. All three Dancing With the Stars judges have been on the show since its first season, with the exception of Len Goodman who sat out one season due to prior commitments. The show has won 14 Primetime Emmys and has been nominated for 122 awards.

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
