Kourtney Kardashian Reveals Morning Routine That Keeps Her In Shape, But Nutritionists Don’t Recommend It [Video]

Kourtney Kardashian is known as a health nut, and on her personal website, she gave an insider’s look at the breakfast diet that keeps her so thin. While nutritionists have slammed Kourt’s diet, claiming it’s too high in fat, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star swears by clarified butter and her “signature salad.”

According to Kourtney, she starts every day by eating a tablespoon of ghee, or clarified butter, before she eats or drinks anything else. Writing that the clarified butter “nourishes all of the tissues in the body, including the nervous system, translating into calm energy and clarity of the mind throughout the day,” Kourtney revealed that she loves the “the Ayurvedic properties of ghee.”


Melting the butter on the stove every morning before drinking it “out of a cute little ceramic white cup,” Kourtney doesn’t eat anything else for 20 minutes, but then drinks an entire glass of water before eating a healthy breakfast of avocado pudding.

The unusual breakfast is another daily ritual that Kourtney Kardashian swears by, explaining on her website that she eats it “every morning,” since avocado is a “great source of protein before a workout.” To add even more protein to her diet, Kardashian also confessed that “[r]ecently, I’ve been thinking about adding other healthy stuff to it, like bee pollen, rose water, and chia seeds.”

Following her morning workout, Kourtney tries to eat well, and usually has “hard-boiled eggs or my signature salad for lunch,” but confessed that she needs “to start including more protein after my workout.” Over Instagram, Kourtney Kardashian revealed that her signature salad includes avocado, hard-boiled eggs, chicken and tomatoes.


Certified nutritionist Carissa Bealert, R.D., and co-owner of Evolution Fitness Orlando, explains, however, that Kourtney Kardashian should focus on eating more carbs in the morning instead of so much fat. Adding more carbs would “help fuel your brain and your muscles for a workout.” If Kourtney is avoiding carbohydrates, then “the time to not cut carbs is breakfast and post-workout,” Bealert explained to Shape magazine.

But it’s the ghee that Kourtney believes is the cornerstone of her healthy lifestyle. In fact, Kardashian swears by ghee so much that she “only cook[s] with ghee and coconut oil” and tries to “incorporate it into my meals as much as possible.”

Explaining to followers that her “Nana on my dad’s side actually taught my mom how to make ghee and she has been cooking with it since I was a little girl,” Kardashian adds that she and her sisters “always used it, not even knowing what it was called or any of the benefits” while they were growing up. Kardashian has passed the tradition on to her own children, confessing that “[s]ometimes I sneak half a teaspoon of melted ghee into my kids’ warm milk because I believe in it so much.”


Dietitians, however, criticize Kourtney for eating so much clarified butter since “[b]utter, even clarified butter, is so calorie-dense and still high in saturated fat that it’s not the ideal way to start your day,” certified nutritionist Carissa Bealert, R.D., and co-owner of Evolution Fitness Orlando explains in Shape magazine.

One thing that Kourtney Kardashian avoids like the plague is soda. Khloe Kardashian explained on her website that while she’s addicted to soda, Kourtney thinks it’s poison.

“Kourtney does not allow soda in her house,” Khloe Kardashian explained, adding that she “appreciate[s] that and so I’ve been drinking way more water, but when I am craving a soda, I have to hide it from her, even in my own house!”
