Camille Cosby Stands By Her Man: Unsealed Deposition Reveals Loyal Wife Has ‘No Opinion’ On Accusations Against Bill

Camille Cosby is saying as little as possible in the defamation lawsuit against her husband Bill Cosby. Three months after she reluctantly sat down for a taped deposition in the case filed by seven women who claim Bill Cosby portrayed them as liars after they accused him of sexual assault, a transcript of Camille Cosby’s legal Q&A has finally been obtained by the Associated Press. The unsealed deposition reveals that Bill Cosby’s long-suffering wife has every intention of standing by her husband of more than 50 years.

Camille Cosby gave very few actual answers in the taped deposition, often saying she had “no opinion,” and using her marital privilege rights to dodge questions.

Although Bill Cosby admitted in previous testimony that he gave Quaaludes to women for the purpose of sex, Camille said she had “no opinion” on whether or not her husband’s actions were “deceitful.” Camille Cosby’s lawyer stopped her from answering a question about she ever suspected that her husband had ever given her any type of drug to alter her state of consciousness when they had sex.

Camille Cosby flat-out refused to answer some of the questions. When grilled on the definition of honesty, Camille said she was “not going to expound on this.” At one point, Camille Cosby told the defendants’ attorney that she did not have to answer the question.

“I do not have to. I’m done,” Cosby said

When asked if she was aware that her husband had set up trusts for the benefit of women that he had sexual relationships with, Camille refused to answer, citing marital privilege.

Camille also stated that she rarely watched television or read newspapers as the allegations against her husband poured in. Cosby said that all of the information she has regarding the sexual allegations against her husband came from conversations with Bill or conversations with legal counsel.

Camille Cosby’s attorney, Monique Pressley, repeatedly reminded her client that, under Massachusetts’ marital disqualification rule, she did not have to answer any questions regarding private conversations she had with her husband.

“And I won’t,” Camille Cosby said.

One question Camille Cosby did answer was the question on whether or not her husband fathered Autumn Jackson with a woman named Shawn Thompson. According to NBC News, Camille Cosby stated that Autumn Jackson is not Bill’s daughter. Camille said she is confident of that fact “because there was a test, a DNA test.”

While Bill Cosby eventually admitted to having an affair with Thompson in the 1970s, Jackson was convicted in 1997 of attempting to extort money from the comedian after threatening to tell tabloids she was his daughter.

A previous report by the Washington Post revealed that Camille Cosby refused to answer questions 98 times during her deposition, and that her nearly seven-hour session with attorneys netted less than three hours of actual testimony. At the time of the taping in February, Joseph Cammarata, the attorney for the plaintiffs, said of Camille Cosby: “I got the sense that she didn’t want to be there today.”

Camille married Bill Cosby in 1964 and they have five children together. But more than 50 women have accused the Cosby Show star of sexual misconduct dating as far back as the early 1970s.

In addition to the defamation case, Bill Cosby is facing a criminal case in Pennsylvania for allegedly drugging and molesting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004. The criminal case starts May 24 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
