WWE News: Shawn Michaels Video Promotes Pittsburgh Penguins

For over two decades, WWE fans enjoyed listening to “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels come out to the ring to wrestle some of the best matches the industry has ever seen. Now, someone else is using his “Sexy Boy” music. SB Nation posted a Shawn Michaels video on Friday that showed the original HBK cutting a promo putting over the Pittsburgh Penguins front line, called the HBK Line.

Michaels then said to cut to his music and a promo video played, showing the Penguins using Shawn’s own “Sexy Boy” theme song. The Shawn Michaels video aired before Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

That Shawn Michaels video was created by Hockey Night in Canada, a show that invited Shawn to tape the segment to show. That is very ironic because Michaels has been a villain in Canada for most of his career, thanks largely in part to Shawn’s major feud with Canadian superstar Bret “The Hitman” Hart, another big hockey fan.

Of course, the Penguins HBK Line consists of three men who last names forms that title: Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino, and Phil Kessel. All three players joined the Penguins since last season, and all three are a reason that the Penguins are now in the Eastern Conference Finals. They needed to win on Friday night to have a chance to end the series at home on Sunday but fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4, 4-3.

With the series now tied up at 2-2, Shawn Michaels has not only cut the promo that aired before Game 4 but promised to be at Game 5 to cheer on the Pittsburgh Penguins and the HBK Line as they try to retake the lead in the series.

According to CBS Sports on Friday night, the Shawn Michaels video has been part of him playing around with both the fans and the Penguins players on Twitter. He has always been somewhat of a loose cannon and he seems to be enjoying playing his classic HBK persona as he teased his way to the video announcement that he would attend Game 5 in Pittsburgh.

The love affair of professional wrestlers and hockey has always been there. Former WWE Champion and current UFC fighter CM Punk has always had an undying love for his beloved Chicago Blackhawks and has made appearances at games and has appeared in their locker rooms at games as well. When he was in the WWE, his tweets about hockey mostly outnumbered his wrestling tweets during hockey season.

Another former WWE champion, Chris Jericho, is Canadian but was born in New York because his father was Ted Irvine, a 15-year NHL star who played for the New York Rangers when Jericho was born. Irvine played hockey from 1963 until 1977 and played for the Rangers, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, and St. Louis Blues.

As for the Shawn Michaels video, he was never a big hockey fan but really started to take an interest when he learned about the HBK line on social media. He has really picked up the excitement level of the Eastern Conference Finals and made the HBK Line into celebrities themselves. Michaels also took to his Sqor page to let fans know that he appreciated hockey fans, the NFL, and the Pittsburgh Penguins for making this so enjoyable for him.

There is no word on whether the Shawn Michaels video will end up playing again before Game 5, or if they will have Shawn actually address the crowd live at the game. There is also the chance that Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino, and Phil Kessel could always hit the ice to “Sexy Boy.” Now, if the Tampa Bay Lightning answers the Shawn Michaels video with the Undertaker’s lightning strikes video, WWE fans will take notice all over the world.
