One Direction fans have been missing their favorite band, and many wish that 1D would reunite just once during their vacation. Despite the fact that One Direction is not performing live music or making new music as a band, they are still winning awards, and it seems like the perfect opportunity for them to reunite — if only for an evening.
Last year’s Billboard Music Awards were attended by One Direction, and Teen Vogue claims it was a moment to remember. Mainly, the band took fans’ breath away because 1D mentioned Zayn Malik (who had departed less than two months before the 2015 Billboard Awards).
The headlines are already buzzing about the 2016 ceremony, and the news is that this year’s Billboard Music Awards will feature performances from Britney Spears, Madonna, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, and the much anticipated Troye Sivan. However, in their announcement and poll about the May 22 awards show, there was no mention of One Direction making an appearance at the ceremony in Las Vegas.
This is surprising since, according to their website, One Direction was nominated for two Billboard Music Awards in 2016 including “Top Duo/Group” and “Top Touring Artist.”
Regardless, when the social media accounts of individual One Direction members are examined, it is clear that there is only one person that is close to the Billboard Music Awards location of Las Vegas, and that person is Louis Tomlinson.
As One Direction fans are well aware, Louis Tomlinson has been hunkered down in Los Angeles to take care of his infant son, Freddie. Despite this, Louis Tomlinson has also taken time recently to travel to Mexico, according to TMZ, This could mean that there is a chance that there will be a surprise appearance at the Billboard Music Awards by at least one member of One Direction.
There is also a strong possibility that Louis Tomlinson will represent One Direction at the Billboard Awards because he attended the BRIT Awards in February with Liam Payne soon after baby Freddie was born. Otherwise, Louis Tomlinson may be busy because he has been promoting a lot of charities on social media these days.
Another One Direction member that could possibly be in Los Angeles is Harry Styles. Since he whacked off his ponytail earlier in May, Harry Styles has been off the radar, and this could mean a surprise at the Billboard Music Awards may be in the cards for this One Direction star.
Adding to this theory, Design and Trend says he might be working on Teen Wolf (filmed in California) and Belfast Telegraph says that Harry Styles has allegedly recorded new songs. Could Harry Styles represent One Direction at the Billboard Awards and play his first solo music?
While time will tell if Harry Styles shocks fans by making a surprise appearance at the Billboard Music Awards 2016, what is unlikely is an appearance by Niall Horan. In addition to attending the Irish Open for most of the week before the Billboard Awards, Niall Horan was last seen in Dublin on May 19 partying with golf buddies, according to Irish Examiner.
Niall Horan will also be hosting his first celebrity golf charity event on May 26 in the U.K., and this means he might be too busy to attend the Billboard ceremony. On the other hand, Niall Horan could surprise One Direction fans at the Billboard Awards because he is also working on solo music, according to Refinery 29. Like Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan is also promoting other charities like Soccer AID and the Irish Autism Action foundation.
Another person unlikely to attend the Billboard Music Awards is Liam Payne. Currently, Liam Payne is in England with his girlfriend, Cheryl, after a long week in Cannes, France. Along with this, as previously reported by the Inquisitr, Cheryl was filming with Jamie Oliver on May 19 because she and Liam Payne have joined the Food Revolution.
Nevertheless, fans should stay tuned because One Direction members can easily get to Las Vegas from anywhere in the world to attend the Billboard Music Awards ceremony at a moment’s notice.
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will broadcast on Sunday, May 22, at 8 p.m. EDT and at 5 p.m. PDT on ABC.
