The title and plot line for Star Wars: Episode VIII has been a heavily guarded secret, but a video showing what appears to be an official Star Wars Episode: VIII poster has surfaced. The poster reveals what may be the title to the highly anticipated film.
Star Wars: Episode VIII spoilers ahead. If you want to wait until Disney makes its official announcement, you may want to stop reading now. If your curiosity is getting the better of you, then pass on by these storm troopers.
According to Comic Book, the title to Star Wars Episode: VIII is likely to be revealed at Star Wars: Celebration Europe 2016, which takes place in July in London. The Star Wars Celebration is also expected to reveal several Episode VIII teasers and spoilers, along with panels for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars Rebels. The poster in the leaked video contains the Star Wars Celebration logo, adding credibility to the possibility the poster is official and the real title has been revealed.
Here is your last chance to turn around if you want to avoid Star Wars: Episode VIII spoilers. You just have to get past Rey’s look of desperation.
The title to Episode VIII, according to the poster, is Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance.
The title makes sense, especially considering Episode VIII has been teased numerous times to take a darker turn. Fall of the Resistance certainly evokes impending doom.
Oscar Isaac, who plays the resistance fighter Poe Dameron in Star Wars: Episode VII, told Rolling Stone Magazine a little of what we can expect in Episode: VIII.
“In the new film, there’s a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested,” Isaac explained. “All three of them [Dameron, Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn] get tested immensely…BB-8 gets tested too! Everybody gets tested! It’s the dark second chapter, but not really dark.”

Of course, the title Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance could be fake or just a working title. According to Movie Pilot, the Star Wars franchise has a history of using working titles that are eventually changed. Some of the titles are rather boring, or even downright ridiculous.
Here are some other known Star Wars working titles:
- Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was originally Episode I – The Beginning
- Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones worked off the title Episode II – Jar Jar’s Big/Great Adventure
- Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi went by Blue Harvest
- Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens originally went under the working title of Foodles.
Star Wars: Fall of the Resistance sounds a little more like a real title than some past working titles like Jar Jar’s Big/Great Adventure or Foodles. And, according to Carrie Fisher, Episode VIII already has the humorous working title of Space Bear. We’re not aware of any of the Star Wars movies having more than one working title.
