‘Raging Grannies’ Slam Todd Akin And ‘Legitimate Rape’ In Song [Video]
What follows is pretty much exactly like what you read in the title.
Think of them as Rage Against the Machine, but an all-grandma version that sings like a barbershop choir. The Renegade Raging Grannies (as the video calls them) sound off on Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” controversy with a YouTube video that’s catching viral.
“The Renegade Raging Grannies let Todd Akin know what they think of his Neanderthal concepts about how women’s bodies work,” says the video’s description. Indeed, that’s pretty much what the grannies do, but in an endearing (if not somewhat disarming) way.
The Raging Grannies look “like innocent little old ladies,” but they only dress that way “so we can get close to our target.” They are gathered under quite the pointed motto as well. The Raging Grannies seek to “Skewer modern wrongs, satirize evil-doing in public, and get everyone singing about it.”
Interestingly enough, the Renegade Raging Grannies actually have their own website (and an international one t’boot). From the looks of it, they’re quite the social crusaders. Here’s the description:
“You’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for a song to express your outrage about all of those things that threaten our grandchildren’s futures — pollution, militarism, greed, ‘isms and more.”
The website proudly boasts 425 songs, categorized into various political sub-genres like “Business and Economy,” “Environment and Energy,” Government and Politics,” “Healthcare,” “World Issues,” and even “Occupy Wall Street.”
If you have any trouble navigating the website, they humorously recommend contacting their “Web Granny” for assistance.
So far, the Raging Grannies have won 10,000 views on YouTube (and their way into my heart) as of this posting.
