NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Possibly Signing Mike Conley From Memphis Grizzlies

NBA rumors have been swirling around Mike Conley. The 28-year-old point guard is set to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer. With the Memphis Grizzlies going backwards as a franchise, there are those that believe that Conley will be looking to join a new team in the National Basketball Association. Several teams will be looking to add a talent like him to their team. According to FanSided, one of the teams that will could come calling might be the Dallas Mavericks. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is looking to add some key pieces to the roster to help them bring another championship to Dallas.

Mike Conley has spent nine years in the National Basketball Association. He has played a key role in the success of the Memphis Grizzlies. Conley is part of the core of the team. He has led the Grizzlies to the NBA Playoffs five times in his nine seasons. Conley has been playing on an All Star level. He has never been selected to an All Star game his entire career, but it is not because he wasn’t good. There has been a cluster at the point guard position in the Western Conference, led by Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Damian Lillard.

Mike Conley is known for his defense and play making ability. He is also a leader in the locker room. Those are qualities that teams will be looking for this summer. It was a shame that Conley’s season came to an end early because of an Achilles injury. The injury should not affect his value during the free agency. There have been reports of teams still interested in signing him to their team.

One of the teams that will be looking to sign Mike Conley this summer will be the Dallas Mavericks. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is willing to do whatever he can to help superstar Dirk Nowitzki win another NBA Championship. Acquiring a talent like Mike Conley would certainly help with that. The Mavericks have the money to sign Conley, with the salary cap rising to about $92 million.

Last summer, the Dallas Mavericks took a chance on Deron Williams. The point guard did a good job for the team. He averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists per game. Williams was the second leading scorer on the team. He is set to become a free agent this summer. A possible negative about resigning Williams is that he is about turn 32 this summer. He is past his prime. Mike Conley should be an upgrade over Williams.

The Dallas Mavericks signed Wesley Matthews to a contract last summer. He signed a four year deal worth $70 million. He will be a key piece for the Mavericks because he is one of the best 3-and-D players in the NBA. Signing Mike Conley, the Mavericks could potentially have one of the best defensive back courts in the entire National Basketball Association. They would also be able to help Dallas compete for another championship.

The Dallas Mavericks will have some competition in signing Mike Conley. There have been several teams in the NBA reported to be interested in acquiring Conley this summer. One of those teams will be the San Antonio Spurs. Age looked like it finally caught up the Spurs. They are looking to get a younger for next season. Tony Parker is 34-years-old, so they will need to find a younger point guard to team up with LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard.

Mike Conley is the best point guard available in free agency. The Dallas Mavericks are in need of an upgrade at that position. Conley would be able to fit into that role nicely. He and Wesley Matthews could be one of the best defensive duos in the NBA.
