NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Possibly Signing Bismack Biyombo From Toronto Raptors

NBA rumors have started swirling around Bismack Biyombo. As the Toronto Raptors continue their quest to bring Canada their first championship since joining the National Basketball Association. After this season is over, Biyombo has the option to become an unrestricted free agent. His play so far this season has been key to the Raptors’ success. Biyombo brings a lot of value to his team. Several teams in the NBA will be looking to sign the big man during free agency. According to FanSided, one of the teams that will be calling Biyombo could be the Dallas Mavericks.

The Sacramento Kings selected Bismack Biyombo with the seventh overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft. He was traded later on that night to the Charlotte Hornets. Biyombo came into the National Basketball Association with a reputation as a defender, rebounding specialist, and shot blocker. He is willing to do all the little things most players in the league don’t do. He started in 136 out of the 284 games he played with the Hornets.

Bismack Biyombo spent four seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. The team decided not to extend a qualifying offer to him, making him an unrestricted free agent that summer. It didn’t take long for a team in the NBA to sign Biyombo to their team. He signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors. It was a two-year deal worth $6 million, with the second year being a player option.

Bismack Biyombo’s value in the National Basketball Association has dropped since he hasn’t lived up to where he was selected in the NBA Draft. He had something to prove this season when he decided to join the Toronto Raptors. Biyombo played in all 82 games and started in 22 of them. He is currently second on the depth chart behind center Jonas Valanciunas. Biyombo set a franchise record with 25 rebounds in a game against the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 5.5 points, eight rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 22 minutes of action.

Bismack Biyombo helped the Toronto Raptors record a 50-win season for the first time in team history. He is playing a big role for the Raptors in the NBA Playoffs. Biyombo has grabbed more than 10 rebounds in six of the 15 games he has played. He has been playing a lot of minutes because Jonas Valanciunas injured his ankle in the third game against the Miami Heat. Biyombo’s defense and glass-cleaning tendency has been key for the team.

If you were to ask Bismack Biyombo about his future with the Toronto Raptors, he would likely tell you that he is focused on the Cleveland Cavaliers. For the Raptors to beat the Cavaliers, Biyombo’s defensive presence in the paint will play a key role. His value in the NBA has certainly risen since joining the Raptors last summer.

The Dallas Mavericks will be looking for a starting center again this upcoming summer. Last summer, the team missed out on signing DeAndre Jordan, so they had to settle for Zaza Pachulia. Bismack Biyombo isn’t the sexiest pick, but he will bring what the Mavericks were lacking this season. The team was in the bottom half of the league in rebounding and tied for last in blocks. Biyombo does just that, and he will be able to help Dirk Nowitzki in the paint on defense.

The Dallas Mavericks are in a delicate situation heading into this summer’s free agency. The Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will need to bring in some key pieces to help superstar Dirk Nowitzki win another NBA Championship. Signing an elite athlete with the ability to clean the glass and block shots will certainly help the interior defense. Bismack Biyombo could be the perfect fit.
