Shark Tank has products and services scheduled to air on their Friday, May 20, episode that are already buzzing on social media. As reported by the Boston Globe, PMS Bites was one of the Shark Tank products featured — and PMS Bites is gaining buzz for helping women during times when cravings for sweets can increase.
The PMS Bites dessert was created by Tania Green, and gained attention online when Tania’s Kickstarter campaign for PMS Bites surpassed her $5,000 funding goal. The campaign described the PMS symptoms that dog some women each month and offered a sympathetic and convenient way to try to alleviate factors like bloating and sugar cravings.
PMS is an issue that can affect a large amount of women, so it is no surprise that the PMS Bites campaign was a popular hit that caught the attention of the producers of Shark Tank.
Delivered on a monthly basis to the homes of customers, PMS Bites contain ingredients that are called healthier than the snacks that some women reach for during those times. Foods that contain too much sugar could actually make PMS symptoms worse. Therefore, the 30-year-old Green created the vegan, gluten-free, and natural chocolate desserts that contain herbs to help problems like fatigue and irritability.
According to Forbes, Green developed the recipe for her PMS Bites snack after she played around with different combinations for six months. Then Green threw all the money she had — $2,000 — into launching PMS Bites. It was a successful decision, because Green hit $20,000 in sales in only seven months. She quickly found the need to outsource the creation of the thousands of PMS Bites that Green had been creating herself.
Not satisfied to stop with helping just PMS sufferers via her PMS Bites, Green also has forthcoming products to help others with issues like menopause, insomnia, hangovers and weight gain.
Prior to the episode of Shark Tank airing, PMS Bites was already getting a big reaction on Twitter from those weighing in on the dessert and excited to see the founder appear on a larger platform.
Another Shark Tank entrepreneur pitching wares to the investors was the creator of Pavlok, a wristband that shocks a person into breaking their bad habits.
The Pavlok device had a very successful Indiegogo campaign. According to the crowdfunding site, the Pavlok campaign raised $283,827 in funding — more than five times the funding sought, with the campaign funded on November 30, 2014.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Maneesh Sethi was inspired to create the shocking wristband initially to be used as a device that could help people eat healthier and become inspired to exercise and break bad habits. However, the uses of Pavlok have been expanded to help people from breaking other bad habits as well, such as spending too much money. The theory behind the Pavlok device is that wearers will begin to associate the negative and painful shocks with their bad habits, and they will thus desire to perform those bad habits fewer times.
According to the Pavlok description, the shocking device helps to change the minds of users to begin to link bad behavior with pain and therefore seek to engage in those bad behaviors less often.
“Pavlok allows you to speak your reptile brain’s language by adding an unpleasant element (a safe and harmless ‘zap’ of electricity on your wrist) to what you have been taught to love (your nasty lingering habit) — quickly conditioning your mind to associate an ‘unpleasant’ feeling with your bad habit… and stopping it all together.”
