Blake Shelton’s new album, If I’m Honest, dropped today, and he stopped by Live! with Kelly to promote it this morning. Kelly Ripa told the country singer that she “worships” Gwen Stefani, and she seemed more interested in talking about Gwen and Blake’s relationship than chatting about her guest’s new record.
During her conversation with Blake Shelton, Kelly Ripa threatened to steal his pop star girlfriend for an epic Africa adventure. The Live! with Kelly host told Blake that she and Gwen Stefani plan on taking a “Thelma and Louise trip to Africa.” However, Kelly reassured Blake that she wouldn’t drive his girlfriend off of a cliff at the end of their safari trip.
As E! News reports, the topic of conversation soon turned to Blake’s sense of style. The “Hillbilly Bone” singer told Kelly Ripa and her temporary co-host Daniel Dae Kim that he doesn’t have a stylish bone in his country boy body, but he admires Gwen’s edgy outfits. Blake Shelton revealed that he actually looks forward to seeing what his girlfriend wears and which Gwen Stefani he’s going to get every day — sometimes Gwen looks like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe, and sometimes she looks like a punk rock star.
“It’s so fun for me to see what she’s going to wear… It’s like, ‘Who is it going to be today?'”
Blake Shelton marveled at the many different ways Gwen styles her platinum blonde hair, and he told Kelly and Daniel that he worries that his girlfriend might get tired of seeing his unchanging hairstyle and his daily uniform: jeans, a baggy shirt, and cowboy boots.
“For me it’s probably so boring for her,” Blake said. “You know I’m going to have gray hair every day and I’m going to wear blue jeans and boots.”
During a recent interview with People, Blake explained why dating Gwen hasn’t had an effect on the way he dresses. According to the “Came Here to Forget” singer, he likes to stick with his relaxed-fit jeans and untucked, button-down shirts because they hide his problem areas — Blake is a bit insecure about his “man boobs.”
“When things are fitted to me, it’s hard for me to disguise man boobs and gut and all that stuff, so it’s all sticking out!” Blake revealed.
In the song “A Guy with a Girl,” one of the new tunes featured on If I’m Honest, Blake Shelton reveals that he doesn’t mind Gwen Stefani getting all the attention when they step out together. He describes himself as the “the guy with the girl everybody wants to know,” and he says that being with Gwen makes him “invisible.” However, Blake says that he can’t help but smile because he’s so happy that he’s with Gwen.
“Wonderin’ how I ever got your little hand in mine,” Blake sings. “Lookin’ over at ya like ‘ain’t she beautiful?'”
Blake swears that he’s not going to let his girl go now that he’s got her, but he wasn’t always so sure about his future with Gwen. During an interview with the Tennessean, Blake revealed that his duet with Gwen, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” is about the fear and uncertainty that they both felt going into their relationship. They were both going through divorces when they started dating late last year, and they were both afraid of having their hearts broken again.
“The first thing that comes in your mind is, ‘Golly, I just got out of a relationship. Do I really want to jump right into this again? And, can I even trust you? Are we going to do this right?'” Shelton said of the feelings that inspired his duet with Stefani. “Coming out of our situations, we both had trouble letting our walls down and we both had trust issues.”
Blake Shelton will likely feel like “the guy with the girl everybody wants to know” Sunday night at the Billboard Awards. He and Gwen Stefani are going to perform “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” together, so be sure to tune into the show at 8 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
