Kyle Richards Comes Out Of the Closet With Supersized Dressing Room

Kyle Richards has traded in her home gym for a closet that’s so big that she is calling it a “dressing room.” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star spoke to the Los Angeles Times about her gorgeous new 400-square-foot closet and dressing room space, which she created in her Bel-Air home with the help of interior designer pal Faye Resnick.

Kyle says the “closet” part of her new room houses her formal attire, but the rest of the space is her “happy place” for her and her four daughters.

“I come in here with my laptop, or for some quiet time,” Kyle told the Times. “My 8-year-old daughter has sleepovers here with her friends. They do their makeup and watch TV. It’s a little girl’s paradise.”

Richards, who will co-star on the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice, said the dressing room came in handy when she was shooting the NBC reality show because she could have her hair and makeup team meet her without waking up the rest of her family.

“I finished it six months ago,” Kyle said. “When we first built it, I didn’t know if I would ever use it. Then we started shooting Celebrity Apprentice, and I had 4:30 a.m. call times. I didn’t want to wake my family, so I would ask my hair and makeup people to meet me in here.”

Kyle shopped at places like Bedfellows and Gilt to decorate the “feminine, glamorous” space, and she’s not above scouring flea markets for bargains.

“If I see something somewhere for $3,000, I know I will find it for less somewhere else,” Richards said.

While Kyle’s husband, Mauricio Umansky, didn’t actually help design the room, he has a keen eye. The Beverly Hills realtor picked out a bag for his wife that he thought would look great in her giant, walk-in closet.

“We were at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, and my husband saw a Prada bag that was the same color as this [dusky pink] cushion,” Kyle said. “It’s not even my color, but he said, ‘That would look pretty in your closet.’ Even now, I look at some of my shoes and don’t think I’d wear them again — but they do look pretty on the shelf.”

Last fall, Kyle Richards took Entertainment Tonight behind the scenes of the $1.5 million renovations on her 7,000-square-foot home. While the house was initially a bit of a nightmare, Kyle transformed it into her dream home with Resnick’s help.

“When we first bought this house, it was an outdated ’80s modern. Not cute at all,” Richards told ET. “No, I didn’t love that, but I love the home. I love all the energy.”

As of the renovation, Richards and Umansky moved their gym downstairs to make room for Kyle’s new dressing room and adjacent, color-coded closet. Now, Mauricio’s gym is still a work in progress and can be seen by the chandelier hanging smack in the middle of it. Kyle Richards has said that she likes chandeliers in every room in her house because she thinks of them as “earrings for a room.” But Kyle’s husband isn’t having it when it comes to jewelry for his gym.

“This chandelier’s got to go,” he said. “It used to be a bedroom.”

Hopefully, by the time the new season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs, fans will get to see more of Kyle Richards’ gorgeously renovated home — and that closet!
