Kevin Spacey Quips That Donald Trump Hates Foreigners And Reading, Labels Him A ‘Disease’

While entertaining at the Cannes Film Festival, Kevin Spacey quipped that Donald Trump hates foreigners and detests reading. He also labeled the presumptive Republican nominee a “disease” when he made a joke about Sharon Stone. Needless to say, the actor got a bit political in his comedic sketch before a large crowd in the South of France.

Variety covered the annual amfAR auction that took place at the Cannes Film Festival in France. It wrote that things “got off to a racy start” on Thursday night when Spacey took the stage and blasted Trump as a racist who doesn’t read.

Kevin Spacey donned a plaid, patriotic suit in red, white, and blue colors. His comedy routine opened first by doing an impersonation of Johnny Carson, telling the crowd that amfAR regular, Sharon Stone, couldn’t make it to France because she was fighting another disease.

When Spacey brought up Trump’s name, forced laughter came from the crowd, which was mostly full of movie stars, models, and European VIPs.

“The name of the disease is Donald Trump,” Spacey said. “Foreign films contain two things Donald Trump hates the most: foreigners and reading.”

Spacey then poked fun at Trump’s chin in his next line.

“I don’t think I could ever vote for a candidate who wasn’t in favor of separation of man and face,” Spacey joked.

His last jab at Trump was business-related.

“Donald Trump would probably love it here, because there are so many casinos to bankrupt,” he continued.

Not singling Trump out, Spacey also targeted other celebrities in his comedic performance.

“They forecast 30% chance of showers,” he said. “By that they meant Shia LaBeouf would actually take one.”

Faye Dunaway came onstage to join the actor. Spacey then turned his jacket inside out to play Bill Clinton.

“I just want to tell you the state of the United States is a f***ing mess, since I left,” Spacey said, pretending to be Clinton.

Spacey went after Katy Perry, the Cannes amfAR headliner. He cracked that she has an open relationship with boyfriend, Orlando Bloom.

By the end of his routine, Spacey changed a final time to portray the late Jack Lemmon for another line of jokes.

Kevin Spacey’s barbs were reportedly met with mixed reaction, but some of his jokes drew sincere laughter from the audience even though some had a mean-spirited tone for the gala.

The Cannes Film Festival is about raising awareness for AIDS and HIV. It attracts glamorous stars to a famous charitable cause.

Actress Helen Mirren, told CBS News that it’s not easy blending the two together, and that it’s harder than it looks.

“It’s always a slightly uncomfortable mix,” she said on the red carpet. Despite that, Mirren says it “raises an awful lot of money” for a very important charity.

“AIDS is still a devastating illness, destroying communities all over the world and this charity will help with that so we’ll make AIDS history,” Mirren added.

Kevin Spacey narrated CNN’s six-episode documentary, Race for the White House. Perhaps it was this, in part, that made Spacey feel uniquely qualified to go after Donald Trump — and anything related to politics — at a foreign event. Some in the crowd surely weren’t amused by the actor calling Trump a “disease,” while some probably enjoyed Spacey’s skewering of the billionaire.
