NBA Rumors: Jeremy Lin Possibly Taking Pay Cut To Stay With Charlotte Hornets

NBA rumors have been swirling around Jeremy Lin. The 27-year-old point guard is expected to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. According to Fox Sports, Lin has expressed interest in resigning with the Charlotte Hornets. This season, Lin has proven to be an amazing backup point guard. He has stated that he would take a pay cut to remain on the Hornets. Lin said that this season was the most fun he has had in his entire career.

Jeremy Lin has been a sensation since his New York Knicks days. When he was with the Knicks, he played in only 35 games that season. He averaged 14.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds. Linsanity was taking over New York. That would be his only year with the team. They decided to let him walk in free agency that same year. He agreed to a contract with the Houston Rockets the following year. Lin spent two seasons with the Rockets. Then, the team traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent one year with Los Angeles. Lin then signed with the Charlotte Hornets the following year.

This season, Jeremy Lin spent most of the year coming off the bench. He is currently behind Kemba Walker on the depth chart. Lin is an amazing player to have on the bench. Linsanity brought a ton of value to the Charlotte Hornets. He gives the team energy and provides a spark in the sixth man role. He was a huge reason why the Hornets bench performed so well this year.

A big part of Jeremy Lin’s success this season has been because of Steve Clifford. The Charlotte Hornets head coach allowed Lin to play his game, and he fit well into his role. Lin has expressed that he would love to come back and play for Clifford. He also has stated that he appreciates Clifford’s candor and honesty. Lin played a big part in the success of the Hornets this year.

Jeremy Lin may not be the top priority of the team because the team will have to resign small forward Nicolas Batum. The 27-year-old swingman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer. Batum was the second scoring option for the Charlotte Hornets this year. He averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game. Batum had a career high in points and assists. Charlotte head coach Steve Clifford has brought out the best of his players. The Hornets will also have to decide if they want to resign Al Jefferson, Marvin Williams, and Courtney Lee.

According to Hoops Hype, Jeremy Lin is the third best point guard available in free agency. That being said, plenty of teams will be throwing a lot of money his way. The former Harvard Crimson star is only behind Mike Conley and Rajon Rondo. There’s not many options at point guard this summer. That means several teams in need of a point guard will looking at Lin to join them.

Jeremy Lin could have plenty of teams interested in acquiring his services. One of those teams that might be interested in Lin is the Brooklyn Nets. The team is in need of a starting point guard for next season. Jarrett Jack is currently trying to come back from a season ending knee injury. A starting role might not be the only appeal for Lin. The Nets recently hired Kenny Atkinson to be the new head coach. Lin credits a lot of his success during the Linsanity era to Atkinson.

Jeremy Lin is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Plenty of teams will be interested in signing him. Lin has expressed his desire to stay with the Charlotte Hornets, and he would be willing to take a pay cut to make that happen.
