NBA Rumors: Atlanta Hawks Possibly Trading Jeff Teague To Philadelphia 76ers

NBA rumors have started swirling around Jeff Teague. The 27-year-old point guard has been the subject of trade rumors due to the rise of Dennis Schroder. Teague has proven to be a quality starting point guard in the National Basketball Association. Several teams will be interested in the former Wake Forest Demon Deacons. According to FanSided, one of the teams that might be interested in him is the Philadelphia 76ers. They are in need of a someone to lead their young team. Teague could be that guy since he helped lead the Atlanta Hawks to the NBA Playoffs.

Jeff Teague has been with the Atlanta Hawks for his entire career. The Hawks selected him with the 19th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons coming off the bench. When Teague finally got his chance to start, he took full advantage of it. He helped lead the Hawks to six straight NBA Playoffs appearances. Teague and Horford have been the core nucleus for Atlanta.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in need of a starting point guard this summer. Not only do they a need point guard, they need a veteran who can lead a very young 76ers team. This season, Philadelphia didn’t have a quality starting guard to start the year. They traded for Ish Smith from the New Orleans Pelicans for two second round picks. They could be looking to explore their options in the trade market.

The Atlanta Hawks have the luxury of having two point guards capable of starting in the NBA. The Hawks have always known that Dennis Schroder wants to be the starting point guard for the team. Atlanta knew that he wasn’t going to be satisfied backing up Jeff Teague forever. With Schroder’s ascension, that means the team might decide to trade away the former Wake Forest Demon Deacons star for someone who can help the team get over the hump.

This is going to be a crucial summer for the Atlanta Hawks. They’re going to have some huge decisions to make. The main priority for the team will be resigning center Al Horford. The All Star is set to become an unrestricted free agent this off season. Hawks management will have to decide if they are willing to give him a maximum contract. Atlanta has enjoyed Horford for the past nine seasons. He turns 30-years-old in June. Paying $100 million is a lot to pay someone who is getting up there in age.

The Atlanta Hawks might be looking to rebuild this summer if Al Horford decides to leave the team. The next person that could be on their way out, if that happens, might be Jeff Teague. He is still one of the better point guards in the NBA. There are plenty of teams in the National Basketball Associations in need of a starting point guard. Teague still has plenty left in the tank, and he could be a long term solution for a team.

The Philadelphia 76ers tried to trade with the Atlanta Hawks earlier in the season for Dennis Schroder. The 76ers were willing to break the bank to acquire the Hawks’ point guard. Ultimately, Atlanta declined the trade due to Ish Smith’s lack of commitment on another contract. The Hawks also entertained trade offers for Jeff Teague before the trade deadline. With that being said, the 76ers may be interested in acquiring Teague this upcoming summer instead of Schroder. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacons star is a proven point guard in the NBA.

The Philadelphia 76ers brought in Jerry and Bryan Colangelo to help fix the team with their recent struggles. They will be looking to add some talent and veteran leadership. Jeff Teague could be a perfect fit for the 76ers, because he is guy who can help a young team improve.
