WWE News: John Cena To Feud With The Club Upon His Return To ‘Monday Night Raw’?

John Cena has made sure that, in fact, you can see him. A lot of him. He’s been out of action since the end of 2015 with a shoulder injury, but you can still see him every Thursday night (ironically going head-to-head with WWE’s SmackDown for an hour) on his reality competition series, American Grit on FOX. You’ve been able to see him as guest host on the Today show and Live! With Kelly & Michael, as well as bit parts in the comedies Trainwreck and Sisters.

Cena was also recently spotted at ESPN’s Invictus Games and in the spotlight during NBC’s annual Up-Fronts to promote WWE and the E! Network’s hit reality series, Total Divas and Total Bellas. As if that weren’t enough, Cena was just named the host of the 2016 ESPY Awards coming this July to ESPN. But now is Cena’s turn to focus on his day-job and a return to the WWE. We already know he’ll be back for the Memorial Day episode of Monday Night RAW, but in what capacity?

According to the Daily Wrestling News, John Cena is being advertised to compete in what would amount to be a blockbuster six-man tag team match that night in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The advertisement lists Cena teaming up with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to square off with none other than Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, and AJ Styles, collectively known in WWE as The Club.

Before we all get too bent out of shape, there are no guarantees that the match will take place on television. WWE is notorious for advertising dark matches to the host city that will take place after RAW goes off the air. But what a way to make a return if it were to actually take place on TV. Cena’s return is already being promoted on all of WWE’s programming and platforms in hopes that his presence will help a generally poorly-rated show due to the holiday. A mix of Cena and The Club should certainly help attract eyeballs that might otherwise still be BBQ-ing.

Cards are always subject to change, but this advertisement sheds a little further light into WWE’s current programs and directions they plan to take. There have been conflicting reports floating around about the duration of the Roman Reigns/AJ Styles feud, with the most recent stating that the two will conclude their rivalry this Sunday at Extreme Rules. And with the variables that the next WWE pay-per-view (Money in the Bank) present, pairing Styles (and the Club) against Reigns doesn’t necessarily indicate that a third singles match would go down.

The Club has also been rumored to turn against Styles to transition AJ from his feud with Reigns into one with Gallows & Anderson. This proposed match on May 30 would prove that theory wrong, for the time being at least. Dean Ambrose’s involvement is an easy one, as he’ll always be tied to Reigns. Cena is just the X factor in what would include five-sixths of a potential Shield vs. The Club showdown, with Seth Rollins being the missing piece.

Ever since AJ Styles arrived in WWE, former dream matches for current members of the roster became possible realities. While everyone was publicly clamoring for a match with The Phenomenal One, Styles was pining for matches with WWE mainstays in Randy Orton and John Cena. With or without The Club by his side, it appears Styles will get his wish with Cena first. It’s unknown when the two will eventually meet up in a long-term program, but May 30 could see the planting of some seeds for a feud down the line.

Chances are, the match will take place after RAW goes off the air, but what a reason to stick around for the live crowd in Title Town.
