George Clooney Slams Donald Trump, Says ‘Fear’ Will Not Dictate Next President

George Clooney has slammed Donald Trump (again), saying that the real estate mogul will not become president of the United States. Clooney continues to be one of the Hollywood voices echoing in the background during this race to the White House. The Money Monster actor has been very vocal in his disdain for Donald Trump, the presumptive republican nominee. During an interview in Cannes last week, Clooney talked to the press about his take on the whole thing, according to Vanity Fair.

“There’s not going to be a President Donald Trump. Fear is not going to drive our country. We’re not afraid of Muslims or immigrants or women. We’re not going to be afraid of anything. There’s a great disaster in the way we inform ourselves now. Trump is actually a result in many ways of many of the news programs that didn’t follow up and ask tough questions. Their ratings go up because they can just show an empty podium [and a caption] saying ‘Donald Trump is about to speak.'”

George Clooney isn’t a Donald Trump fan, this much is certain. George and his wife, Amal, hosted two democratic fundraisers over the past few weeks and have both been very forthcoming about which side of the aisle they stand on. In fact, Amal Clooney has recently started taking cues from her Oscar-winning husband and is taking aim at Donald Trump herself.

Another Vanity Fair article reports that Amal slammed Trump during a recent talk — but that she did so “elegantly.”

“I mean, when you listen to what the leading candidate on the Republican side has been saying about building walls, about excluding Mexicans, and saying there has to be a complete shutdown on all Muslims coming in. If you actually look at what he specifically says in that now infamous speech about Muslims, he kept saying, ‘They only want jihad; they don’t believe in our way of life; they don’t respect our system.’ And when he says ‘they’… And, you know, you watch the media coverage afterwards and people should’ve been saying, ‘Do you mean the 1.5 billion people around the world who fit that description? Do you mean the people who are U.S. citizens, who are members of your military, the vast majority of whom are not extremist or violent in any way?

“If, at the end of all of this, he gets beaten by the person who becomes the first female president of the United States, then I think that would send a very positive message from the electorate back to him as to what they really think about that point of view.”

Meanwhile, George Clooney hasn’t been so elegant. Calling Donald Trump a “xenophobic fascist” back in March, the actor has been quick to diss Trump, whom he often refers to as an “opportunist.”

According to The Guardian, George Clooney openly and proudly supports Hillary Clinton, just as he did President Barack Obama in 2012.

Clooney does not believe that Donald Trump has what it takes to be a successful president, but his opinions go further than that. Clooney doesn’t believe that the American people will even let it get that far.

“He’s just an opportunist. Now he’s a fascist; a xenophobic fascist. You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they’ve exhausted all the other possibilities,” Clooney said.
