In Easton, Pennsylvania, Kelly Aldinger — substitute school teacher and church leader — was caught having sex with one of her students in a local cemetery.
The Easton Area High School teacher and student were spotted at a local cemetery on May 6 at 1:06 p.m., as reported by Lehigh Valley Live. According to Lieutenant Matthew Gerould, the cemetery is located just off North Seventh Street.
The source notes that the student was 17 years of age. Allegedly, the relationship began in 2015. However, the teacher and student met much earlier, dating back to the male’s junior high years when he was actually one of her students. Yet, at present, the student is a junior at Easton Area High School.
Accordingly, Kelly was charged with institutional sexual assault for having sexual relations with the minor in her vehicle. She was sent to Northampton County Prison after being arraigned for the aforementioned charge on May 17. However, WFMZ-69 News reports that she has posted a $50,000 bail and is free until her next hearing on May 31.
The source mentions that she admitted to having sex with the teenager “multiple times” during the fall of 2015.
Kelly Aldinger’s attorney, Josh Fulmer, mentions as follows.
“The assignments that she had lined up until the end of the year have been terminated, so I don’t know what that will mean for her in the future, pending on the disposition of the charges.”
Kelly Aldinger, 49, was on-staff with Source 4 Teachers — a private company that hires educational professionals. The company placed the substitute teacher at Easton Area High School after she passed required background checks.
According to Source 4 Teachers spokesman Owen Murphy, Kelly Aldinger had to pass extensive state and federal background checks, as well as a child abuse criminal check prior to employment with the company. However, since the teacher/student allegation, the company has suspended Aldinger “indefinitely.” The spokesman mentioned, “The safety of students is always Source 4 Teachers’ top priority.”
Likewise, he continued by mentioning that Kelly Aldinger would no longer be a teacher anywhere within the school district. He stated that in regard to the teacher, Source 4 Teachers is willing and going to cooperate with local authorities in any way that’s needed. Murphy notes as follows.
“We are cooperating with the district and law enforcement to provide any necessary information or assistance they need to perform their investigation and resolve this matter.”
Kelly Aldinger was also highly-involved at a local church, the St. Paul’s III Lutheran Church, as reported by Lehigh Valley Live. The source notes that, according to church bulletins, Kelly headed the church’s council as president. Back in September 2015, Aldinger appeared before the Palmer Township Planning Commission on the church’s behalf to discuss matters pertaining to real estate. Lehigh Valley reports that St. Paul wanted to sell off a parcel of its property, located at 2561 Newburg Road, in Palmer, Pennsylvania.
Given her position at the church, Kelly Aldinger was in charge of Christian education, worship and music, Sunday School as well as Vacation Bible School (VBS). Currently, the church’s website doesn’t show Aldinger as the council’s president. Instead, it lists the position as vacant, according to the source.
The church’s pastor, Reverend Chris Drunkenmiller, didn’t have too much to say about Kelly Aldinger’s situation when the source attempted a phone interview. In essence, he stated, “We are praying for all the Aldinger family and we have no other comment at this time.”
