Dorinda Medley On Booze Feud: Does She Think Sonja Morgan Is A Fraud?


Dorinda Medley isn’t really getting along with Bethenny Frankel on this season of The Real Housewives of New York, as Bethenny isn’t a huge fan of John Mahdessian. On the first couple of episodes this season, Frankel wanted Dorinda to know that she felt Medley was trying to sell John to the group as being a great guy when stories about him were contractions to this claim. For example, Ramona Singer claimed that her friend had heard him bragging about popping Viagra and having sex with Dorinda for hours when he got buzzed. Clearly, this wasn’t something she wanted to hear.

According to a new Bravo report, Dorinda Medley may not be the biggest fan of Bethenny’s this season, but she does understand the frustrations of being copied. On last week’s episode, Dorinda learned that Sonja Morgan was putting together a booze brand called Tipsy Girl, which does seem to mirror Bethenny’s brand, Skinnygirl. And while Bethenny has yet to confront Morgan about the drink, Medley doesn’t think that copying someone else’s brand is worth doing. In fact, Dorinda hints that it makes you a fraud.

“Like Bethenny said this week…Women, it doesn’t work like that. You’re you from Day 1 till Day 29,000. (Yes, some of us might even live to be 81 like good ol’ Joan!) It’s your responsibility to stay true to that, no matter what you’re given, who you marry, who you give birth to, what you win, and what you make. If you lose yourself because of any of that, then you’re a fraud,” Dorinda Medley explains on her blog for Bravo.

Of course, Medley isn’t necessarily calling Sonja a fraud, because some of the ladies are questioning whether Sonja really knows that she’s blatantly copying Frankel’s brand. Instead, they are questioning whether she’s truly staying honest to her own brand.

“That is never easy on someone…once you’re a fraud, you’re the first one who knows it, and you just end up tearing through life, tearing people down because you almost can’t stand seeing someone be themselves, be real, be happy, be NORMAL… It’s sad. So I have a suggestion: Live your damn life and BE YOURSELF. If your ‘brand’ or ‘truth’ is just an excuse to hurt others and the life they’ve built for themselves, your brand is sh–. And you might be too,” Dorinda Medley points out on her blog.

And she does follow the same sentiment as Bethenny Frankel. During The Real Housewives of New York, Bethenny revealed that she built her brand up from scratch and had developed her own drink. She did reference some other housewives who just accepted branding deals from companies that developed the drink. She listed several housewives from other cities and even included co-star Ramona Singer.

It sounds like Dorinda understands Bethenny’s frustrations. According to Bustle, Medley has had her own success in the career world, and the website guesses that her net worth is close to $20 million. So Dorinda may understand the power of copycat brands and how they are merely fraudulent brands. Luckily, Medley doesn’t have to deal with this kind of business issue these days, as she’s busy defending her relationship with John. During the psychic reading, the psychic told her that she would be getting married again, but not to John. And when Ramona said she was thankful for that out loud, Medley lost it.

“Believe me, after my outburst that afternoon, we all cleared a tray of cheese. And afterward, we cleared the cocktail list at Balthazar just to get a break. After that haunting visit from husbands and fathers, we were ALL tipsy girls,” Medley jokes on her blog.
