Is it true that there is life after death? A groundbreaking scientific study reveals there is life after death. The study shows that consciousness continues after death.
A study conducted in 2008 of more than 2,000 people, now published online, shows that consciousness continues even after the heart stops. According to the study completed at the University of Southampton, a person who dies experiences awareness for approximately three minutes after being declared dead.
Dr. Sam Parnia was the lead researcher in this study.
“Contrary to perception, death is not a specific moment but a potentially reversible process that occurs after any severe illness or accident causes the heart, lungs and brain to cease functioning. If attempts are made to reverse this process, it is referred to as cardiac arrest; however, if these attempts do not succeed it is called death.”
Nearly 40 percent of cardiac arrest patients who took part in this study revealed they had some sort of awareness after being declared clinically dead. Dr. Parnia concluded that this could mean that mental activity continues initially, but after recovery may lose their memory due to sedative drugs or brain injury effects.
Out of 63 heart attack patients, seven revealed having memories and four reported having clear memories and recollections of thinking, moving, and communicating with others after being declared dead.
Parnia explains that while a brain is oxygen deprived, it is unable to recall memories.
“Here you have a severe insult to the brain but perfect memory.”
One patient that Parnia interviewed was a toddler whose heart stopped after having a seizure. The little boy’s parents contacted Parnia after the toddler drew a picture of himself looking down at his body. It appeared as though a balloon was attaching himself to his lifeless body. The toddler, not even 3-years-old, explains what the balloon meant.
“When you die you see a bright light and you are connected to a cord.”
Parnia was intrigued that a toddler was able to share such vivid memories of his “death.”
“What his parents noticed was that after he had been discharged from hospital, six months after the incident, he kept drawing the same scene.”
A similar experiment in Berlin resulted in the same proof that there is, indeed, life after death. A total of 944 volunteers were given a mixture of epinephrine and dimethyltryptamine. This causes the body to survive clinical death, and then nearly 20 minutes later be brought back to life after being administered other mixtures of drugs.
During the awakening process, AutoPulse, a new cardiopulmonary recitation (CPR) machine, was used.
Mr. Berthold Ackermann, one of the lead German scientists, monitored the operations. Testimonials from those who have encountered near-death experiences share slight variations but many similar experiences, World News Daily reports.
Most felt as though they were detached from their bodies. Some felt security, levitation, serenity, and weightless.
“I know our results could disturb the beliefs of many people, but in a way, we have just answered one of the greatest questions in the history of mankind. So I hope these people will be able to forgive us. Yes, there is life after death and it looks like this applies to everyone.”
Based on this scientific evidence, there is some form of life after death. Some of this scientific proof may offend the beliefs of certain religions and individuals. Volunteers from the Berlin experiment came from all different religious backgrounds, including atheists, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Hindus.
What does this all mean? Is there a heaven or a hell, or does the world just continue in another realm unseen to mankind? It certainly strikes some with disbelief, but this groundbreaking scientific study reveals that there certainly is life after death and consciousness does continue after death.
