NBA Rumors: New York Knicks Hiring Kurt Rambis

NBA rumors have been swirling around Kurt Rambis. He is a favorite to keep his title as the head coach of the New York Knicks. Rambis has a very close bond with team president Phil Jackson. He also has very good knowledge of running the Triangle Offense. Rambis has expressed all year long that he would like to continue being the head coach of the Knicks. According to FanSided, New York is expected to announced Rambis as the permanent head coach.

The New York Knicks are starting yet another era. Derek Fisher was the head coach earlier this season. The Knicks were considered an NBA Playoffs team. Things didn’t turn out the way they were hoping. Fisher was fired in February with 23 wins and 31 losses. Team president Phil Jackson didn’t believe his former point guard was the right person to lead the Knicks. Kurt Rambis was promoted to the interim head coach.

Kurt Rambis finished with a record of nine wins and 19 losses. That was enough to convince New York Knicks team president Phil Jackson that Rambis is the right guy to lead the team. Some fans may not agree with the future Hall of Famer. Jackson believes that Rambis is the right guy because of their time with the Los Angeles Lakers. Rambis was there when Jackson helped lead the Lakers to multiple NBA Championships.

The New York Knicks need stability at the head coaching position. New York has gone through four coaches in the past eight seasons. Two of those coaches were before team owner James Dolan hired Phil Jackson to become the team president. In Jackson’s first year with the team, he took a gamble by hiring the inexperienced Derek Fisher. The Zen Master believed Fisher would have been a good fit because he had experience running the Triangle Offense as a player.

One of the biggest questions for the New York Knicks if Kurt Rambis is hired is what would happen to Carmelo Anthony. The former Syracuse Orange star has expressed that he wants to have an opinion on who should be next head coach. Since the offseason has started, Phil Jackson has ignored Anthony’s desire to be involved in the process. Some may feel that the Zen Master is trying to get Carmelo to waive his no-trade clause.

Last summer, the New York Knicks selected Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth overall selection the NBA Draft. Porzingis has proven to be quite an asset for the Knicks. The team has made it known that Kristaps is the centerpiece of the future. This year, he averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. Porzingis had an amazing rookie season. Not too many people expected him to develop as fast as he did. The fans even booed him on draft night. Phil Jackson has found a gem in Porzingis.

Phil Jackson could decide to go a different route if he believes that Kurt Rambis isn’t the right guy to lead the New York Knicks. There are still plenty of options available for the head coaching position. Indiana Pacers team president Larry Bird decided to let Frank Vogel walk. Vogel has one of the best defensive minds in the entire NBA. Another option for the Knicks would be David Blatt. The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach led the team to the NBA Finals. He was fired in the middle of the season in favor of Tyronn Lue. Blatt has an incredible record in the National Basketball Association.

The New York Knicks are in need of a head coach. New York team president Phil Jackson believes that Kurt Rambis is the right guy to lead the team. Rambis is one of Jackson’s closest friends. He also knows how to run the Triangle Offense. Rambis has a strong desire to be the Knicks’ head coach for the next several years.
