NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets Hiring David Blatt

NBA rumors have been swirling around David Blatt. He’s become one of the hottest head coaching candidates in the National Basketball Association. Blatt was fired in the middle of the season by the Cleveland Cavaliers. His name has been linked to many of the open vacancies in the league. According to FanSided, the Houston Rockets plan on interviewing Blatt about their vacant head coaching position. He has a good chance at replacing former head coach Kevin McHale.

The Houston Rockets are currently looking for a someone to become their new head coach. The team fired Kevin McHale earlier in the season. Daryl Morey believed that McHale lost the respect of the players in the locker room. JB Bickerstaff was promoted to become the interim head coach. He led the Rockets into the NBA Playoffs this year. They were defeated in the first round by the Golden State Warriors. Leading the team into the playoffs wasn’t enough to convince management to give him the job permanently.

David Blatt has only coached one full season in the National Basketball Association. In his second season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was unjustifiably relieved of his duties in the middle of the year. Blatt has won 67 percent of the games he has coached. He also led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.

It will be interesting to see how David Blatt will handle Houston Rockets superstar James Harden. One of the biggest challenges for Blatt will be what kind of offensive system he will run. Last season, a majority of the Rockets offense ran through the former Arizona State Sun Devils star. Blatt will have to convince Harden that sharing the ball could allow them to win more games. Some people have said that Harden only cares about his own scoring. With the team feeling that they aren’t involved in the offense, they might just start standing around.

Dwight Howard is expected to opt out of his contract this summer and become an unrestricted free agent. Many people are expecting Howard will command a maximum contract. Some teams in the NBA might be willing to offer the former All Star that type of contract. It will be interesting to see if David Blatt can convince the former Defensive Player of the Year to stay with the team. When healthy. Howard has shown flashes of his old dominant self.

David Blatt could be the favorite to win the Houston Rockets head coaching position. He will have some competition for the job. Frank Vogel will be one of the hottest candidates in the NBA after the Indiana Pacers decided not to renew his contract this summer. Former Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy is at the top of the list for the organization. Van Gundy has plenty of coaching experience and would be a fan favorite.

The Houston Rockets will have some competition for the services of David Blatt. As mentioned, Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird has decided to not bring back Frank Vogel. Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac is looking for someone to come help guide DeMarcus Cousins into becoming a winner in the NBA. Blatt has also interviewed for the opening with the New York Knicks. Phil Jackson is contemplating the possibility of bringing in the former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach to run the team.

David Blatt has had a good season-and-a-half in the NBA. He also has a good resume and has a winning record. The Houston Rockets are in need of someone to help the team get to the next level; Blatt could be that guy.
