Selena Gomez’s Revival Tour Essentials And Why She Can’t Have Own Squad On Stage Like Taylor Swift’s

Selena Gomez’s Revival tour officially kicked off, and the 23-year-old’s more excited than ever after taking a break for two years. She was forced to cancel her 2013 tour after being diagnosed with the autoimmune illness lupus. She had to check into a medical facility in Arizona for chemotherapy treatments.

Many admired Selena’s return as she welcomed several changes in her career. Her Revival album was the first one that was released outside Hollywood Records, the Disney-owned company where Selena started. She was also the album’s executive producer, and many of the songs were written by her.

The Montecarlo actress is ecstatic to perform songs that truly represent who she is, and as she hits the road, Selena revealed her tour essentials to Entertainment Weekly.

First on the list is her favorite chicken pot pie. She said that in her previous tours, her snacks would include chicken pot pie, Hot Cheetos, Red Bull, and Gatorade. However, her physical fitness trainer does not let her eat junk food anymore. Fortunately, pot pies are still allowed although not every day.

Being away from home for too long is the biggest challenge touring artists face. What Selena does is to bring candles that remind her of her abode. “I just try to make my home everywhere I go as much as I possibly can. I love traveling and touring, but I have to bring the little things that make me feel at home,” she said. She likewise brings a diffuser as well as peppermint and lavender oils to aid her sleeping.

Like most artists, the Hands to Myself songstress always has her laptop which she connects to any television if she wants to access her movies and books.

For fans who are wondering if Selena will have some of her famous pals onstage as guest stars just like Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour, you might end up disappointed. In the same interview with EW, Selena said that while her best friend totally loved the idea, she was not ready for it.

“I made a joke about this [when] Taylor was in the room and she looked at me like, ‘You should totally do that!’ I was like, ‘I can’t have all those people come on my stage!’ She’s like, ‘Why not?’ Because I’m not Taylor Swift!”

The former Disney star reasoned out that she wouldn’t want people to judge her work based on her friends.

“I’ve been in so many situations where it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re friends with this person? You’re with that person?’ All this credibility s–t that drives me crazy. I love being able to work with other artists I admire, but I have a lot to do on my own before I am willing to make it all about embracing other people.”

Selena is proud that even if her Revival concert stage isn’t extravagant with “tons of fire and confetti every five seconds,” it is the biggest stage she’s ever performed on. Her aim is for the concert to be “vibrant and full of life” so that her fans will come out feeling the same.

This seems to be the reason why she opted to remove one song from her Revival tour setlist. Selena allegedly penned the song to deal with her breakup with Justin Bieber, and while it served as a therapeutic outlet, the songstress doesn’t want to go back to those memories.

“I won’t be performing [The Heart Wants What It Wants] on this tour because I don’t want to. It’s like when you smell a scent and it takes you back to a place that maybe wasn’t the best place. That stuff is a little bit more difficult.”

In 2014, Selena performed the song live for the first time at the American Music Awards and got emotional.

Selena’s Revival tour will first make its way around U.S. and Canada before going to Asia and Europe come July.
